Is there a choice between my CZ 452 and a Custom build?

I have one 22LR rifle. it is a CZ 452. it shoots nice and in general is a nice rifle.

I would like to know if there us another factory rifle that would be a step up with better performance but short of the cost for a custom rifle.
 
From what I have read and heard from the folks on RimfireCentral, no. May as well dunk the donut. Hall action, Eliseo tube gun chassis, custom barrel of choice, scope or irons. $2500-3000 should get you close to the door...

Is your 452 stock? Have you bedded it? What ammo shot best in it? Reason for the quiz: I just got one and want to know what to expect. Thanks.
 
Need to know if you are shooting critters, paper or other.

If target, you can go to a Sako for about $1600
Anschutz 64 for a bit more
Anschutz 1913a with a 54 action, north of $2300.

For the price point of a CZ and compared to Savage, etc., it is a good deal.

Be aware that a proper bedding job is probably going to help and is suggested. There is only one action screw in the 452. You want as good a fit between the receiver and the stock as possible.
 
The CZ 452 American has 2 action screws for what it is worth...

But to answer the OP's question we need to know the intended use of the rifle.
 
my intended use is just target shooting. just like to see what other rifles are recommended. I dont think the semi auto 10/22 is something I want, so I thought there might be other nice bolt action choices in the economy end of the sport. Always easy to order a full blown custom when funds are no object.

Maybe another CZ since the one I have is so nice. Savage looks to have a big selection also. just a fun topic to discuss.
 
A step up,but below a full custom would be a used remington 40x. A model 52 Winchester or a Anschutz 54. One the best shooting 22s I've had, accuracy vs cost was a 64 anschutz MPR. I Paid $700.00 for it new 15-20 years ago. They had a 27" heavy barrel and the trigger would go down to about 8oz. An all around very good rifle and got me into ARA matches finishing mid pack. With a Full custom you are paying a whole bunch of money for that last tinny bit of accuracy because it's needed to be competive in benchrest matches. I have three customs,but if they were not used in matches I wouldn't have them, because I can get a 1/4" 50yd rifle for less than a thousand for general purpose fun.

Rebarrel your CZ. I'm left handed, so options are limited, but my CZ 452 with a .920" straight taper Muller shoots extremely well. I compete in RF benchrest (100ft) weekly, my rifle is very competitive. I have less than $1000 into the whole thing.
 
Take a look at an Anschutz 64 MPR. Its built on the intermediate quality Anschutz action (64) and runs around $1200 new. I had one that shot extremely well out of the box without anything being done to it except adjusting the trigger and adding a Harrel Tuner and a Leupold 35X atop her. I used the rifle in local competitions where I competed against several other manufacturers rifle (including CZ) and even some custom built rifles that cost 3X as much. Only sold her recently to help pay for a custom built AR. True the 54 Anschutz action is the better action, but it also starts at a price considerable more. Even used 54's are being sold for around $3000. But don't think you are going to be able to compete (seriously) with even a 64 action in the more serious comps where I've seen rifles running closer (starting price) to $5000 (without glass). But the key in rimfire competition is to find the rimfire ammo your particular rifle likes the best. And you MUST test to determine that and not what some else tells you works for them.

I put together a CZ 455 with a Dan Lilja .900 no taper EPS chamber bbl and bedded in a Don Stith Classic BR stock that shoots lights out,,I have 9-10 CZ 452 22 rifles and the Lilja bbl 455 shoots well inside all of those,,I also have a 1957 Brno Model 4 that shoots better from position but from a rest the 455 Lilja Stith is my best shooter,,having put it together myself I think I have right at a grand in it,,with the new CZ Fly trigger it may shoot even better as the best I could get with the factory trigger and a Dip sear is 7 ounces,

I do most of my 22 bench shooting with sights and for score,,



rifle set up with PNW sight and 4 inch bloop and Gehmann Iris front and rear,,


 
Paul the 455 has a barrel change system built into the action, I understand its like the 10-22 Ruger. The 452 has to be smithed to achieve a barrel change, its rumored that they shoot better than a 455 cause of a better barrel attachment to the receiver Nobody has mentioned a Copper, Ive seen a few that really shoot but way less money than a custom.
 
New Ultra Light Arms sells their 22s for about $1800. Their tack drivers. Custom actions, Douglas barrels and bedding that can't be beat.
