Is the 6mm BR my next gun?

I’ve been hearing a lot about the 6mm BR and very intrigued with what people are saying. Are people purchasing a factory gun, having a smith build a custom or building their own? Not sure how to start or where to look.
if you are trying to stay on a budget, get a Savage target action for a single shot or a model 10 repeater action for mag feed. i prefer the Target action., get a prefit 1 in 8 twist barrel from Criterion or Shilen. headspace gauges and do it yourself. shoot 80 to 108 grain bullets. Berger 80 FB are wicked accurate

checkout Northland Shooters supply for actions and barrels

Truly the best place to start is a 6br.

My advice would be to give me a call. I can supply you everything you need but the action to assemble it yourself.

My 6br barrels have done quite well. Put that together with either my Revolution benchrest stock or a chassis and Triggertech trigger and you have a very serious rig.

I’d highly recommend not getting yourself a 6BR. Good chance if you do you’ll also have a 6Dasher, 6BDX, 30BR and who know what else in the near future. The little 6BR is some of the most fun a guy can have while burning gun powder. So many bullet and powder combos that work well. You can ring steel, shoot eggs, hunt varmints and it does it all well. Load the right bullet and it’s a great deer cartridge at mid range and in. Lots of good brass options out there. Best of all, there is a wealth of information and help right here at accurate shooter, it’s the reason this website and forum exists. Lots of guys here, myself include, have a 6BR or multiple 6BRs and a few of its variants.

Don’t do it, it’s an expensive and deep rabbit hole that you might want to avoid. Unless of course that’s exactly what your looking for, if it is, then go full steam ahead and enjoy the ride.

You could start at the first page of this thread and there is post after post about 6br reports. Lots of match wins. Even guys at the Nationals.

These are build it yourself builds.

I put one together several years back. Remington 700 action. Criterion barrel and a hs precision stock. Threw a load together and never looked back. Did not even have to do load work up. This was the first load i tried. Its a 5 shot group and as long as i hold still this is how it shoots.
This is so typical

I had a Savage 6BR with a sketchy barrel and chamber from the factory--I put a Shilen 8 twist prefit on it--used the load off this site 30g Varget , 450 primer, 107 SMK--wham! All in one hole--seems to stay in tune? this load just shoots--period! EASIEST cartridge to load for ever made I think-you just can't go wrong.

This is the rifle in my safe that I grab when I want to impress friends--or myself for that matter

Plain build--order a barrel--screw it on--one hole groups with ease
No neck turn--Nothing fancy at all! The Sierra 107's have done so well in mine I have never felt like even trying a Berger or anything else.
Keep it simple--give one a try--you will never look back and FWIW lower speed loads shoot Fantastic and is Easy on the brass--I just can't see the need for the faster hotter loads. This is one cartridge where I think Lapua brass is superior--Peterson was iffy in mine--would shoot great groups but brass just seemed to move a lot-
Have Fun Good Luck!

The 6BR???............huh, I don't know how many 6BR's I've chambered up, but it's been a pile........ and more than likely at least two piles!!

Shooting a 6BR depending on how you configure it can cover a wide range of shooting applications.

I have or have had just about all configurations and while not currently popular I'm a fan of the slower twist configuration with regards to how I use my 6BR's. Which of course is evaporating and molectulerizing PD's....Along with pounding the steel plates between PD trips - 2" spinners and such at 300yds is a hoot!! And it's easy....I know, but still instant gratification is satisfying, especially when your fellow Americans are wanting to see a miss while peering in their spotting scopes!! You need some well seasoned hide with these guys.......Dude.

Typically a zero freebore slow twist 6BR shooting a 55SBK with a stout charge of AA2230 or Reloder-7 will spin numbers on the chronograph like a freshly greased slot machine while at the same time printing a dot on the target. Combine that with long barrel life, almost no recoil and the same trajectory as a laser and well you get the idea.....but I digress.

Now I'm not saying a fast twist won't shoot that same 55SBK bullet tight because it will. It's just that typically the lead is quite a bit longer for the heavies - I have few fast twist zero freebore 6BR's that shoot the heavies and lights as well. Nevertheless a properly chambered slow twist 6BR with a muzzle brake or a can is joy to shoot........no recoil and inherently accurate. Bullets of 55-70 grains usually sit inside the neck just above the shoulder with no donut to worry about.....One more thing, when your shooting another varmint caliber and you begin to think you've lost your ability to shoot?? - Set your 6BR on the bench and shoot a group an aspirin covers.....it's then you realize the "other" varmint caliber is not a 6BR!!!

Enjoy the day!!!

Hard not to love a 6br. Ive owned a 6br and 6bra and the br family is just too easy. I had good shooting rifles prior, and even great but once you shoot a br or variant you’ll never go back. The ease of getting a great load, the ability to keep it in tune, the lack of recoil and the efficiency in the loads are just in a league of there own.

I have 2 Urban Rifleman barrels with the action mounted in his Revolution stocks and thoroughly enjoy them - both are great shooters. Do give Brad a call. He will answer your questions and help you in your decision process

Closest “easy to fool with cartridge” to a laser beam I know of.

Same as people above, Remington 700 or 700 footprint action, 1:8 twist varmint profile barrel 24-26in, and have fun. Swapping triggers is easy, so you could have a 2lb for hunting and a 2oz for the bench.

The br case ain’t picky, nearly any combo within reason will shoot darn well.

I have been shooting highpower rifle (XTC and Long Range) competitions for 25 years. 2-3 yrs ago I put a 6BR barrel on one of my guns and it was one of those experiences that made me think, “where has this been all my life?”

It is by far my favorite cartridge to shoot for competition/paper targets.

Low recoil and incredibly easy to get it to shoot well. Bullets are relatively inexpensive compared to larger caliber bullets. Lots of capability in a low cost per use cartridge.
