Is the 6 Br still the king

I’m new to this game but trying to learn from what I have read on shooting sites and match reports it seams with in its limits the 6 Br which if I’m right was built from the ground up for match competition. and it’s brass has been the starting place for wildcats for competition shooting. But guess shooting life would be boring if everyone on the line was shooting a 6 Br.
so what are some of its limitations and what’s really the advantages of some of its offsprings
just trying to learn before I jump in
thanks
Just go with a 6 dasher. You won’t be sorry.

The 6BR, and it’s variants, can be described as one of the most successful cartridges ever introduced.

That is, in every Discipline except the one that it was initially intended for, that being 100/200 yard Group Benchrest.

It was conceived to go head to head with the 6PPC in short range Group competition.

It won’t.

But when Norma introduced their version with a longer throat to utilize higher BC bullets in the 100+ grn range, it found it’s true calling.
Au Contraire, it was not developed to go head to head with the PPC, it was being shot about 10 years before the PPC.

The Mike Walker version was Remingtons attempt to dominate Short Range BR.

That is not from me, but from Glenn Newick’s book, “The Ultimate In Rifle Accuracy”.

There are other powders out there.100 y 5 shots.
Been shooting a 6BR since 2009. 8208 is my standard powder. H322 works. You may get good groups with Varget and Re-15 but you will get 100-150 fps slower.

Some posters suggested getting a 6BR first then later an improved version. Don't understand putting off buying a 6BRX barrel. Simple to FF, very accurate, more speed, easy to work up loads. Both use Lapua cases. If you are a varmint hunter and don't shoot farther than 300-400 yards you would be happy with a std. 6BR.

My point was that the PPC came years later, I had the pleasure of shooting with Dr. Palmisano a few times.

Actually, Jimmy Stekl had more to do with it and he crushed everything in sight while riding it into the IBS HOF, especially when they developed the Remington 68 gr custom bullets, which begat Malsby’s which became Berger 68’s.
