Is the 6.5 Creedmoor a barrel burner?

I really wanted to build a 6.5 Creedmoor but, I read a post somewhere that the Creedmoor is a real barrel burner. I'm not a guy that shoots hundreds of rounds through a year. I mainly want it for white tail and some informal target shooting. What do you think fellas? Should I think about going for something else, or was I reading a post from someone that doesn't know as much as he should? Thanks for all your past help from my questions !

I have one in a Ruger VT and from what I have read you should get Match Grade accuracy for about 2000 rounds and Hunting accuracy for about 3000 rounds, but again this also depends how you look after it. :)

As long as you don't shoot it till the barrel is on fire so to speak you should get decent service out of it. If you are target shooting (informal) don't shoot at a fast pace. Shoot one ,then let it cool and so on. You can shoot five in a row but not real fast other wise the barrel will heat up pretty quick.

Take a look at this article on overbore cartridges. The 6.5 Creedmoor is between the 6.5x47 Lapua and the 260 Rem. Also, as stated above, the way you shoot the gun has a big effect on how long the barrel will last.

Stay away from high intensity powders (Reloader 17, H100V, 500 series V.). The cartridge was designed for High Power XTC and I have not been hearing anyone complaining about short barrel life on the line. The 6XC barrels seem to be making it to the 2000-2500 round range using a smaller diameter bullet. I would think the larger diameter projectile would last as least as long if not more.
When in doubt, call Dennis DeMille at Creedmoor Sports, he has a ton of experience with it.

When looking at one really good round for both target and hunting, the creedmore is a great choice and, when looking at barrel life compared to the other choices out there that also excell at big game such as whitetail, you automatically take out all the magnum and overbore cartridges and what is left is a rather small list that also excell at targets. I doubt that many on the list are far better than the creedmore AND can do the same job. My current big-game barrels will probably outlast me. If I were building another, the creedmore would be on the short list of choices.

have no fear at all with the creedmoor. thats what i shoot in 1000yd i.b.s. light gun. 28 in bartlein 1:8 42.7 gr h-4350 140 berger vld, jewell trigger, mcmillan mbr stock and routinly shoots sub 5 in groups @1000 with my best at 3.187 and 3.812. and this is with 1640 documented rounds down the tube. got friends out west that shot it as a wildcat before hornady picked it up and still shot SUB MOA with 4000 roun ds on the barrell.

swampthang, you shoot that Creedmoor up at Cool Acres? That is some goods groups, and good barrel life for your buddy's. What powder did they shoot?

I have several GAP builds in 6.5 CM and the last re-bbl was at 2200 rounds. This gun was used as a comp gun with some strings of fairly quick fire.

She started opening up just a bit, which isn't really acceptable to me. It was still a .75 MOA rifle, but not good enough.
