Is something magic about 28" finished length for 6BR / BRA

My current 6bra is 28”
It’s replacement is 30”

If your barrel comes 28", they you need to cut an inch off the back and front ends before chambering to get rid of any lapping damage, or just run it as is and take your chances.
You don’t have to cut an inch off the chamber end. The outside gets threads cut in it the inside gets a reamed for the chamber. I’m pretty sure lapping damage is irrelevant under the reamer.

Well 2 cents here 2 Dashers Same Barrels Brux 30" 1-7.5
One shoots 8ths of a grain less and groups equal at 600 yard?
All is not Equal.
I just finish up a 6BR Bartlien 1-8 Barrel 27" Match Reamer .270 Neck.
Will see how this Dream Works ?? 105HB and 107 Sierra Pills on Varget .

I have a Bartlein 6mm 1:8 straight 1.250 34" blank on the way and am contemplating finished length. My previous two 6BR barrels were finished at 28"; am considering moving to BRA. Barrel is for mid-range F-class with 105'ish grain freedom seeds. Historical posts have posited 28" has optimum powder burn as well as some claims related to "optimal barrel timing."

Would I be shunned by the shooting illuminati if I went to 29"? Is it blasphemy for even asking?
Well that's interesting considering I have my 6br finished at 29" and it's a laser beam.

A competitor complained that His 30” match barrel would not group. A veteran/knowledgable rifle smith suggested,”cut that barrel back to 27” and it will shoot”. I don’t know???

30" barrel won't shoot ??? The door is open to many questions.
Start with : Barrel make, Gun Smith, Loaded Ammo and the Shooter ?

Well my 27" 6BR Barrel shoots light out at 600 yards? VooDo magic?

Every barrel is different. It’s more about particular barrel harmonics than length.

Also, a bad chamber job, bad crown etc will not shoot good at any length. Add to that, one’s ability to tune, which includes selecting the best bullet, powder primers etc.

Anecdotally, I have seen where some of the top shooters have cut an inch off of a barrel and it came alive. But they never say that barrel length was the problem.
