Is Robert Whitley of 6mmAR.com still around?

I recently inherited a couple rifles from my uncle who used to compete with them. One of them is a 6mmAR which I understand is also considered a 6mm Grendel. All my research tells me there is one guy on this planet that you can order the reloading dies from, and that's Robert Whitely of 6mmAR.com. His website looks all but abandoned, and I've been leaving voicemails and sending emails for weeks but no joy. I know the guy has other priorities, but I'm wondering if anyone has heard from him recently? Maybe he's moved on and just doesn't respond to inquiries anymore?

I'd very much like to know if I can get a FL resizing die for my 6mmAR so I can fire this new rifle of mine, or if I need to give up on Mr Whitley and figure out another way to reload all this nice Lapua brass I've got.

Thanks guys.

First off, sorry for your loss.

That website has been in disarray for a while.
I have been trying to access load data that used to be on there a year or so ago.

There are 2 options I can suggest:

1. Go through your Uncles reloading stuff. There is likely some dies in there.

2. If 1 is unproductive, buy a set of 6.5 Grendel bushing dies, and bushings for 6mm.

I have a 6GRENDEL, and load with 6.5 Grendel bushing dies.

It is a great cartridge. You should have fun with it.

I have a 6AR and my dies are Redding.

Lloyd
Yes, Redding makes the dies. I spoke to them and they said I have to order through Mr Whitley who has the proprietary tooling, he send it to Redding with my order, then they send the tooling back to him with my die. Crazy.

Thank you. Unfortunately the reloading stuff is inaccessible so I have to figure something else out.

I have been considering going the bushing route for this cartridge, but was going to do that as a last resort. I'm not new to reloading but I've never messed with bushing dies so I don't really know what I'm doing there.

If you wouldn't mind, I'd love to see photos or links for what you're using for your 6GRENDEL. I'm currently out of town for a few weeks, but if I don't hear back from Mr Whitley by the time I return I may just go the bushing route and it would be good to know I'm buying the right stuff the first time around.

If ya can't get the Full length die, give Widden Gunworks a call ... they used to make dies for the 6mm Fat Rat similar to the Whitney 6mm AR Turbo...may have something in stock for a 6mm AR, probably get ya shootin, if ya send a fired case and /or dummy rd.

I am using this with a .269 bushing.

When I form the brass, I do it in steps. Not sure if I need to, but I do.

If in your research, you find a low priced full length non -bushing die, please pm me. I think I would prefer to do my initial forming that way.

Do you have access to the Uncles reloading stuff? If he was shooting it, he was loading it.

I spoke directly to Robert a few years ago when I got my 6mmAR. He said "Use a full-length 6.5 Grendel bushing die with a .267" bushing." He went on to say "Use a quality neck lubricant and take it slow. You might lose a piece of brass once in a while to a collapsed neck if you rush it." I have been using a Redding FL bushing die with the .267" bushing with great success....although I've ruined a few here and there it's not a deal breaker. I stocked up on Starline 6.5G brass so I'm in good shape there....I own both the 6.5g and the 6mmAR variant.....

P.S. My upper is a Sabreco

Robert uses rcw3 on here. He is still shown as a Site Supporter but has not signed in here for over two years. Maybe @Forum Boss could give some insight as to Robert's health and whether he is still active or not.
The Pandemic changed a lot of things.

when I bought my 6mm ar from Whitley around 8 years ago his son was running the business. Only way to contact him seemed to be by phone number that was on website. I’ll shoot mine in a 600 yd gong match next month for the last time as the barrel is finished. I’ll be replacing it with a Fatrat or 6arc. If you have a 6mm AR Turbo 40 barrel I’ll sell you my Redding Competition die set.

If you don’t have any fired brass there should be some info engraved on the barrel. I just looked at mine and in front of the gas block it says 6mm turbo imp.

If anyone is interested I have everything you need to shoot the 6AR in an AR platform with the exception of the lower. Bullets, brass, dies, etc. are all available for sale.

Do you have the Redding FL resizing die? Or are you using bushings?

If the brass you have has a 40 degree shoulder then you have a turbo 40. His earlier versions kept the Grendel shoulder
I'm away from my reloading bench for a couple more weeks, but I'll check when I get home. I have like 300 Lapua cases that have all been loaded several times but I'm not sure if it has a 40deg shoulder.
