Is it time to unload your ammo/gun stocks?

Last December my broker was pleading with me to unload the Strum Ruger stock I was holding. Finally in January I relented and sold most of it. Thank goodness I did. Since January it has tumbled by 20%. I was holding some other ammo stock and ended up selling it a little later because my broker had identified some other opportunities. I haven't bothered to check where they are now, but I suspect they are lower.

Now with the ammo pipe lines filling up and what appears to be a leveling off of gun sales, I'm considering selling off what few gun and ammo stocks I have left.

I feel a little ghoulish...whenever something like Sandy Hook occurs and the hoarders start talking, I buy gun and ammo stock. So far it has worked out really well. Hate to say it but Obama has been very very good to me.

My .02? I think the panic is over and prices are returning to normal or lower than normal. ATK was a good one for a while and even with the latest retreat it is still higher for the year. Got out of SWHC a while ago. It quadrupled since the Great and All Powerful Poo Bah was elected. RGR and SWHC are both down for the year. I think they've had their run.
Ghoulish? Hardly.

Full disclosure: no positions in any of these.

I was just going to post on this subject!!!! So far in 2014, pretty much ALL of the components, bullets, primers, powder and BBL's, ect... that I have had on order for..well, YEARS, in some cases, has showed up in the last few months. I reciedved another Krieger BBL yesterday, as a matter of fact!!!

The problem...Murphy's (Tod's) Law will soon kick into effect. You see, I havn't fired a shot, other than some pistol plinking, since deer season LAST year. No 1000 yard matches...no 600 yard matches...no steel shooting....no load development.no nothing!!! All of this bounty is just piling up on my shelfs.

Now, a normal person, looking at the past 3 -5 years, would be wringing his hands over this. You see, in a "normal" world, more and more shortages and price increases would make his bounty more like an "investment"..increasing in value over time. Tens of thousands of bullets, 5 and 8 lb jugs of powder piled to the ceiling...primers...BBLs......I'M RICH!!!!!!!!!!!

But, alass....Tod's law will soon be kicking in. Components will soon again become more and more plentyfull..and cheap!!! Stores will nearly be giving the stuff away. Lead time on BBL mfgring will be weeks instead of years...and prices will plummit. I'VE SEEN IT WITH ALL OF MY OTHER INVESTMENTS!!!

If you don't believe me, I have some investment deals you might be interested in!!!!

You're welcome.....

Tod.

Nothing wrong with taking a profit. When I am way up I like to at least get my initial investment out, maybe more. If you think there is hope, just let some of the profits ride. I also own no RGR.
