Is it still smart to buy a Nikon scope

I'm looking at a new Nikon fx1000 6 x 24. Given Nikon is not going to be in the rifle scope business anymore, would you buy it?

No way that I would buy from a company that has decided to stop making rifle scopes. They made a conscious decision to stop supporting the shooting market.

I don’t think in terms of “is it smart”, I tend to consider “is it worth the gamble”. The answer to that question depends on what is your intended use, how critical is it to your success and can I absorb the loss if my gamble doesn’t pay off.
Now all the above is dependent on the price. For me, the lower the bet the more likely I am to throw the dice.

Support of the shooting sports Nikon has gave up on and only a matter of time before the warranty is not worth the paper it is printed on just like bushnell in my opinion.

If you are looking for something in the price range you have, $600.00 take a look as some of the deals Leupold and Vortex have also, along with bushnell.

I've had a couple Prostaffs for a long time 3x9 and 4x12. Both on knocked around deer rifles. Pretty rock solid I think. Easily got my few hundred bucks worth. If it brakes trash it. Seems nobody wants to buy them now, well maybe the price will go down. Then I'll get a couple more. The high dollar ones? Think I stick with my Sightrons. Mike

Get their top of the line models at bttm feeder prices. Once a co. "stops" warranty or service,you are effectively buying into a "parts" business. How much sense it makes would depend on several things,not the least of which is,can you work on it? Purging scopes is well within home shop capacity. Adjusting parallax (on fixed models) is a step up in tooling....but doable. It just depends on how far you want to go? I'd buy one if it was cheap enough.

I am a vortex and sightron fan and this was just something that looked good for the money but the concern is that nikon doesn't make sculptures or rifles anymore. Thanks for all your points and comments.

When I was young my Dad's advice on every major purchase was, "Where are you going to get part's"... That simple question would make me pause , and many times I am sure it saved me from a bad purchase .

That being said, I just bought a brand new Nikon last week at a great price...it's a gamble just like anything else in life .Anyways, hard to tell what to believe on these warranty/parts issues after dealing with two Big Name scope makers in the past year that did not have "Parts" for a Lifetime Warranty product and just sent them back with a cleaning and inspection and a letter telling me they need repair but I am out of luck...That opened my eyes a bit .

I've had good service out of several Nikon scopes. It would be worth the gamble at half that price. For $600 I'd also suggest the Sightron SIII.
