Is it safe to put silica gell and o2 absorber for primer/ammo?

Hello,
Is it safe or good to vacuum seal primers or ammo with silica gell packs and 02 absorber?
Also to put powder containers in a plastic container or plastic 5 gal bucket and drop the same packets in with them before putting the lid on?
May be overkill for the both but want to try and prevent moisture/tarnishing and the whole bit.
Thank you

Correct. Some bags to seep after a while. Just want to make sure it is ok to put the two together. And if it's Ok for powder to go in a 5 gal bucket with then silica and 02 in the bucket. No vacuum on the bucket
Thanks

Just be sure that what ever vessel holds them can vent pressure in the event of fire. Powder Bunkers can be made with wood or metal/wood but should not be sealed shut. Check with SAAMI regarding storage of powder and primers.

Once upon a time, I found myself in charge of the Mil-Spec packaging committe so I will throw you a few things to think about.

On the desiccant packs, be sure you have them dried out very well right as you pack them or what you are doing is adding moisture instead of removing it.

Good vacuum bag sealers have options for N2 purge gas and that works better than poorly prepared desiccant. The combination works too.

Place an indicator card inside a transparent bag where you can check it. Again, make sure your indicator cards are dried out and prepped just as you pack. Like all workmanship issues, sometimes bag seal welds are imperfect and that indicator card will show it before long If you have a leak.

For the above concept to last, you must use barrier film bag material, not polyethylene. Poly bags allow water to pass and it happens fairly quick. Barrier film bag material has trade names like Aclar and costs more than poly.

Thank you for the reply! I'm sorry. What is SAAMI?

Thank you Region, great info

They are kept in a garage so want to keep everything dry and safe. Thanks
I would be more worried about the temperature swings than the moisture, but at 5K feet elevation in a high plains desert, humidity isn't an issue. A wood box can be used to contain up to 25 pounds of powder as I recall. Put an insulating foam board liner in it, and the temperature swings will be slow and small.

Thank you Jepp!
