Is it Possible to Ream a Savage LRP 243 factory barrel into a 6mm AI..?

I do like the sound of a 6-06 Ackley.....Hmmm.....

6x284....Hmmm.... also

I don't really want to just change out the jets in the carburetor for a little more horse power, but turn it into a street racer, with an occasional trip down to the track...LOL.

I'm not opposed to getting new barrels... I just wanted to try and make something serious out of these.

So you now know the 6ai would probably clean up your old chamber and some other considerations. What have you decided?

Well... I haven't decided on anything yet. Larry is correct in his point of why I'd want to build off a factory barrel... I guess their tolerances wouldn't be great... but not sure about that. I'm still pondering what to do with these barrels, and at the same time I'm still in love with Hot 22's.

But I like HOT STUFF... so a 6x284 might be the way to go...we'll see. I'm sure these barrels with their 9.25 twist would work with 105-107's.

I have taken a .17 Rem VSF factory barrel and had it rechambered to .17 Fireball and fitted to a Stevens 200 action and a Boyd's Tacticool stock, with a good chamber in it it will now shoot 1/4 in. groups @200 yds. Sometimes you can get lucky with factory barrels but the new cut chamber has to be and improvement also.
