Is it ok to grind a ring ?

Went to install the Weaver ring i got and the ring base interfer with the scope...

I Guess i will cut the ring lip with a grinder.

Is it a good solution?

If that’s the rings you want to use that would work, better if you could if someone to machine it instead of a grinder

I take a pc of sandpaper or small file and deburr edges, also where the ring halves meet I file them down until the scope sits in the bottom ring or lapp, I even deburr burris inserts for any burr, I check al rings for burrs, actually quit lapping just started deburring and making sure the scope beds in the rings, goona start bedding rings also.

Will look for a file to start with.

Also my old ring had a sticky rubber kind stuff that stick the scope in the ring, that new Weaver ring has none , metal to metal.

I have a pièce of anti slip shelf liner, is it better to cut a pièce and Line the ring with it?

IMO you have a long way to go to get to a full understanding of what constitutes proper scope mounting. The rings need lapping and deburring. Fortunately there is an easy shortcut. Buy some of the Burris rings that have self aligning inserts.

Yes i am far from it, Never really put attention as long as the scope fit . But will learn .

A better photo to show my problem , one side of the ring is higher and the square part of the scope sit on it and make it uneven .

This is a Weaver extension rings

If I understand you correctly you need to move the scope or the ring so that the only part of the scope that touches the ring is the cylindrical part. The ring needs a little clearance between it and the turret assembly.

Yes, i need to move the scope back and when do, the turret assembly lays on the side of the ring base that is higher then the other .

The scope tube goes in the upper(higher) level of the ring, not the lower level.your description of the problem seem off. Show us a side view of the gun with the lower rings installed and the scope positioned where you want to put it.

Upper, lower, middle...
The scope is set for his eye relief.
Get a one piece rail and be done with it, instead of reinventing the wheel. Or the ring, in this case.

Can you not put the lower part forward? or is the base too short?
Looks like he wants the bottom of the turrent assembly to sit on the lower part with the ring. Sounds like he wants to remove the part of the ring bottom where the ring top attaches. I use the Weaver extended bases and extended rings to solve all sorts of mounting problems. Never moved in at least 30 years on my walking varmit gun. Frank

First photo scope not on top of extended ring, but not enough back.

Scope back ok for me, but turret assembly is on top of ring and scope not level due to right side lipe higher.

Level bubble showing the effect of that lip.

Does it exist a way to change eye relief to set that scope forward. I Never got that problem before.

Your post make me look at my other scopes i had change with time, Bushnell, Simon, tasco, and all have a turret assembly smaller and they all move freely on the extended ring.
