Is it easy removing engraving from barrel?

I have several 6 BR barrels that I will be sending out to be re-chambered in dasher. Just curious if the gunsmith can easily remove the old engraving on the side of the barrel and change it? I have quite a selection of barrels, calibers, twist, free bore, etc. so it would be helpful to have the correct information on the barrel.

Smith can time the barrel so old engraving is on the bottom so you can't see it and engrave 6mm Dasher on the correct position. He can use a Dremel tool to erase the 6BR engraving fairly easy.

I have a 6BR with it in nice Cursive writing on the muzzle end :-\ it seems a little deep to dremel off. Maybe grab the Dewalt angle grinder....Good post Sir Ive been wondering this myself

It can be turned on a lathe. But if it's tapered it might be more trouble than it's worth.

Barrel spinner. Start off with 220 and work finer...

any good gunsmith can refinish your barrel like new. they wont use an angle grinder or dremel.

The feds require the firearm manufacturer to place the caliber or gauge on the receiver, barrel, or frame. If it was illegal to have an unmarked barrel then all of Shilen and Pacnor's prefit barrels would be illegal along with numerous different manufacturers of AR-15 barrels.

Not illegal when a barrel is installed as a "gunsmithing" task. The insurance company (that's carrying the gunsmiths liability policy) sure frowns on no caliber marking, though.

I guess posting the actual law that dictates what you do and don't have to do somehow makes me a web site lawyer to some. Gunsmiths don't have to engrave anything. Manufacturers have to engrave laundry list if things, to include the caliber, not cartridge, and gauge.

Savage6.5 so if the rifle is getting a new chambering the the law need not apply. Only if they are building a rifle or shotgun or is that all hog wash.
