Is HODGDON SUPERFORMANCE a double base propellent

I love Superformance . . . so much so that I have roughly 5 lbs. ............ For my .243 Win, I load ..............

It's always worth remembering that Hodgdon doesn't sell Superformance as an across the board / use in any apparently suitable application powder, rather one with limited applications.

Because this propellant is tailored for specific applications, the number of cartridges and bullets is limited, but where it works, it really works! (Hodgdon's website re the powder)

As 243 Win is one of Hodgdon's few listed cartridges for this powder, one would expect it'll perform at least reasonably well there.

My recollection is that the Superformance powder sold by Hodgdon for reloading is NOT the same as the powder they use in loaded "Superformance" ammunition. But it's been some time and I don't remember exactly where I picked up that information. Having lived through several powder shortages at this point, I always thought it would be a great idea to find a cartridge/bullet combination to load that would really work well with either Superformance or 50 BMG powders, as they always seem to be available when every other powder has disappeared from the shelves. ;)

For me, I found Superformance to have many different personalities, depending which day of the week I was shooting. It should have been named SYBIL.

Tried it in my 6mm AI with a 90 gr bullet. 53 gr was 3525 FPS and my standard load of 53 gr H4831sc is 3505. I guess I'll stick with the H4831sc

That's what I heard too, Superformance ammo, does not contain Superformance powder. In fact each Superformance cartridge loaded by Hornady has it's own blend of Superformance powder...Superformance 30-06 ammo has a different blend of Superformance powder than the 300 Win Mag for example as explained by Hornady in a video somewhere. It's an industry only, and cartridge specific blend of multiple Superformance powders to extract the best velocity from that bullet cartridge combination as tested and loaded in factory only Superformance ammunition.

I have some loaded up in 6.5 prc for no other reason than I have 8lbs with no other use. I'll get into those loads in a few months shooting steel and report back
