Is a wind gauge available with a wind fan (that reads velocity) that I can rotate to the direction the wind is coming without moving the gauge body?

I use a Kestrel to read wind velocity and ambient temp (I also use multiple flags). However, on the shooting bench, if I point the Kestrel toward the direction the wind is coming from, that often turns the whole Kestrel body away from me so I can't read the wind velocity on the the gauge body LCD. Is there a wind gauge I can place on the shooting bench that has something like a head containing the wind fan that I can rotate toward the wind but still have the body oriented toward me so I can read the wind while shooting?

Go to Forestry Suppliers. go to wind meters and look at the SKYWATCH EOLE.
Horizontal wind vane. easy to read screen for bench top work!

I use a Kestrel with the wind vane kit and mounted on a small tripod. It connects to my iPhone by BT (free Kestrel app) which I prop-up so I can read it easily. Works for me. Also, I calibrated my wind flag tail ribbon length (Walmart sewing dept, 1" wide) with it and a commercial fan to 6 mph. Ribbon straight out, more or less. Not surveyor tape (too flimsy). Using them together helps with wind calls. I shoot VFS Score mostly and some ARA rimfire. Hope this is helpful.

And I thought that my book title, "How To Trap Coyotes Using Home Made Bait In A Dirt-Hole Set With Leg Hold Traps", was detailed and descriptive. :p jd

Kestrel makes a wind vane kit that you can use with a bluetooth remote display.
Before investing much money in a Kestrel, I'd suggest simply taking some straightened out coat hangers and surveyor tape to your range. Set 4 or 5 of these "flags" out and watch. Very few places will give the same wind condition all the way to 50 or 100 yards..much less further distances. You literally might have 5 flags going 5 directions, at differing velocities...and every one of them is giving you info.
That's the biggest issue with a kestrel...it can only tell you what's happening right where it is(or its bluetooth vane). It's simply one of those things that sounds great until ya actually see why it's not.
Actual velocity means very little too. All that really matters is POI and groups, which are both very dependent upon a good wind call...unless you're just very lucky. I'm not that. It's easier and best, IMHO, to simply correlate flag and tail angles to poi. It shows you too, if the condition is one that will be somewhat consistent and that's huge. This easy test might change how you look at a single wind device. Don't waste the opportunity to shoot over flags, though..both ways and see the difference.

A handheld wind guage is worthless. It only gives the wind at your hand.
I had the idea to make a wind clock but never followed thru on it. A clock face and some bevel gears and you would have wind direction.

The Kestrels have limitations and not particularly expensive for a reason.
You want a great system, look at the remote anemometer from Scarlet Technology which locates downrange and connects to a smartphone…..velocity and direction, real time.
These are used on huge high, crane booms and big money racing sailboats. They are not cheap.
The issue, if any, you need to really figure out where, downrange to place it, and wind is rarely uniform. Long range viability.
IMO direction is very secondary and no substitute for wind flags but velocity, down to .1 mph is very useful.
These come from , I believe, Taiwan. Ordered mine a fews years ago, had it in less than a week via DHL.
