Is 6BR the easiest, lowest recoil, most accurate way to shoot 600/1000 without working brass?

I made a comment to someone the other day that I thought 6BR was probably the easiest, lowest recoil, most accurate way to shoot 600 - 1000 yards without working brass,no neck turning, etc.).

He argued that there were other solutions out there.

What do you think?

A 6XC,using Norma brass) gives you more FPS, which does help at 1000,a 6BR is much closer to Mach 1 than the same bullet from an XC at that distance). A 6.5x47 Lapua necked to 6mm isn't too much work either, akin to sizing down fired brass).

However, it is currently easier to find 6BR brass and dies. 6BR dies are currently cheaper, because more of them are in use.

It depends what exactly you mean by accurate. If you qualify that with "in ideal conditions" I'd agree. But apart from the recoil, there are many non-wildcats that will outshoot a 6BR in less than ideal conditions at the longs, and some don't have much more recoil e.g. 6XC.

I agree with you & JB.
Any other cartridge would compromise your criteria.
Doesn't mean it's the best, who knows what that is). But it is pretty damn good overall..

If you dont mind a little more recoil here are a couple more that would work. factory brass, not bad recoil, accurate to 1k and enough information available to get you a good start for some tight groups. I would agree that the 6br is probably the easiest round I have ever loaded for. that little gun of mine shot just about anything I put in it. These seem to work good as well. 6xc, 6.5x47 .260

The 6mmBRX is a 6mmBR fireformed out .100 the neck is shorter the shoulder is the same. It can be loaded with standard 6MMBR dies backed out. The case is resized with a body die. The 6mm Dasher is simular but requires special dies because the shoulder angle is different. Both of these cartridges will give .243 Winchester veloscities with 8-10 grains less powder. Lapua make goos 6mmBR Brass to be fire formed. Can be loaded with no neck turn ot tight necked. For 1000 yard shooting with a 6mm best accuracy is found between 2900 and 3100fps with 105s or 107. The 6XC, 6 X47 Swiss are also fine 600-1000 yard cartridges. You will find all on the line. The 6mms can shoot right up there with the 6.5, 7mm, and 30 calibers without the recoil. Inherent accuracy is better and barrel life is better than the .243, 6.5 X .284 and the .300 Mags Less powder also reduces the cost. There are a win win situation.

I pretty much agree with you and JB....however the 6.5-284 with a 297 neck is damn accurate and easy to load for.

Well, I sure hope so, as I'm supposed to pick up my new 6mmBR @ Mickey Coleman's this coming Saturday...:):)

Woody,

Im loving it!!

Just picked a load from the "Varmint Loads" page on this site and loaded up a few to sight-in and get a feel for the gun. Was astounded to find it,68gr Bart's/29.6 grs H-322) shot several 3 shot groups on the low to mid .1's... Can't wait to try it out on Crows and Groundhogs...

Those are some mighty fine groups and that is one mighty fine looking rig as well.

Mine is coming, soon, I hope. Can't wait to get her.

for 600-1000, I would suggest the 6.5X55 Swede is as good,Or even better given some of the 6.5 bullet BC's) and needs no special brass prep either.
