Introduction - Howdy

Howdy from Houston folks!

I won’t lie, I found this forum in a search for some serious shooters in order to sell a few rifles.

I see you have a ban on new members posting classifieds for 30 days so I definitely want to respect those rules. Please understand this isn’t an ad, an announcement of an ad or any derivative there of.
My name is Nick and I’m from Houston, as alluded to above. I’m a life long shooter, mostly of shotguns for bird hunting but I did eventually learn to enjoy riflery, particularly for precision and pistol craft, particularly for defensive work.
I have studied pistol craft and defensive shooting for a good bit and even co-wrote some defensive school courses with a friend who created a program at a well known range in Dallas.
I’m currently a shooter in Covid-Ammo Shortage exile and trying by best to get my value out of each round, nesting on a pile of brass and lead like Smoug in the Lonely Mountain atop his treasure.
I’m a fairly prolific forum user and have “legacies” on two other forums, one of which I’m still active on. I was a member, Mod and admin at Shotgunworld.com and just a member at TexAgs.com (specifically the outdoor board) both under the same screen name. My SGW account has been dormant for many years now though as the membership there migrated away from that which I appreciated.
At any rate I hope to find a new home here and when the time is right, I do have a few nice rifles to sell.
Thanks all!

Welcome from Tennessee I’m sure you’ll be an asset to our internet community

Not a problem at all GotRDid. I wasn't aware the Meetings were in Houston this year. Looks like it's at the George R Brown... the Hilton or Marriot that are attached to the GRB would both be just fine. Be aware the green space and the GRB as a whole are a bit of a homeless magnet these days so plan to park in the hotel Garage, not on the street. It'll cost you, I'm sure.

Outside of that, there are some fine hotels in a 15 min radius of the GRB that wouldn't be too big of an issue for you if you have a car. (Not sure if you're flying in and going to taxi/uber to the venue or if you're driving in...)

BBQ... that's a matter of taste... Answer me these two questions and I can help direct you...

Pork or Beef?
Sauce or no sauce?

Not trying to clutter your thread so I will be brief. Will check out the hotels directly attached. Appreciate intel on parking risk/options.
As for BBQ, Beef primarily, but love Pork Babybacks as well; Mesquite or Hickory smoke and dry rub. I have been to Cooper’s in Llano; utterly Devine!
GotRDid.

Clutter away. This thread can be anything we make it. I had no intentions aside from introducing myself and I've done such.

Ok so primary tip on Houston BBQ, don't eat any BBQ anywhere near the GRB. Especially not IN the GRB. There are a couple of restaurants that are decent that are on the GRB grounds or in the vicinity (very close walking distance). Saltgrass Steakhouse is a decent mid grade steak house chain. You can get a no-nonsense 16 oz ribeye, baked potato and salad with a beer for ~$35+tip. It's owned by Tilman Frettita if you know him from the show Undercover Boss. It's part of the Landry's empire.

Also close by is a Pappadeaux's which is the cajun seafood arm of the Pappas Family Restaurant group here in Houston. Great food there. Again, expect ~$35pp with a beverage.

Now, for BBQ. You're gonna have to venture for quality BBQ but I'd say the closest decent BBQ to the GRB would be the Pappas Family BBQ wing, Pappas Bros BBQ. Hard to go wrong for decent Texas style Q. Brisket, pork ribs, chicken, sausage ... all pretty good. I rate them a solid 7/10. Also they have my favorite hamburger in all of Houston... You will not regret that burger. Made from Brisket trimmings.

I've heard good things about Henderson & Kane as well as Truth BBQ both off Washington Ave, but I cannot personally vouch for their quality.

I'm sorry to say but for the real deal you're gonna have to venture North of I-10 or outside the 610 loop. Stop #1 should be The Brisket House in West Houston, on Woodway. #2 is Pinkerton's in the Heights, followed by #3 Eddie O's also up in the Height's. Go south for #4 Killen's BBQ and if you're REALLY dedicated to great BBQ, venture way out to Spring for Corkscrew BBQ or Tejas BBQ and Chocolate in Tomball. (30-40 min from GRB.)

Welcome ,you well have fun here. Hopefully you have a o/u browning for sale when you get out of jail....LOL. Are you a Marine?, If not welcome anyway
