Internet Service Provider Recommendations?

Lucky Shooter

Does anyone have experience with the WOW provider ?

I've been on Spectrum for a while and get good service but their cost has gotten
way over the top-----looking for a change.

Thanks.

No, but I keep losing services from Comcast, the latest, Peacock. They want more money. I told them to go take a long walk on a short pier. Funny how their "lineup" change coincides with the start of the Olympics.

I keep moving closer to going off the grid. If the grid proves anything, you are at the mercy of software. Looked what happened to those people stranded in airport due to a software screw up.

We are slowing becoming cooked like a frog. You put the frog in a pot of cold water on the stove, he likes it. You slowly turn up the heat and before the frog knows it, he's cooked and isn't even aware of it before it's too late.

I've been happy switching away from Comcast. I now have fiber optic through ATT. At work we have Starlink and its reasonable.

Forum Boss: I also have AT&T Fiber Optic and am very happy. Speed is so fast I was able to remove "booster" units placed in distant areas of the house. Close to the WiFi unit my downloads run 603+ megabits per second download with 550 mbps upload. 80 feet away, separated by multiple walls, the download speed is 125 mbps.

Google Fiber. Left Comcast, got the "lost connection to the internet" one too many times. $71.50 per month and the mesh wifi router equipment is included.

Daughter has MetroNet (new company in town) and really likes it. We still have Spectrum and are seriously looking to change. She's paying $70 a month for the first year $80 for the second and its supposed to cap at $90 on the third year (we'll see on that).

This is too location specific to answer with anything useful.

In my area, Comcast is rock solid. In another local area, they aren't. It's the same for any large provider.

Your neighbors have better information than folk on this forum.

LS,

I'm in the middle of a 2 year contract with them. Supposed to supply 1g and modem for time period @ $60/month since I get paper statements and pay by check. Got a notice in the last bill they are going up by$5.00/month starting next month. I have yet to argue with them about it. None of the other providers are any better, Mediacom and Comcast/Spectrum keep pushing expensive bundles for gear and streaming, with Mediacom requiring use of their equipment to get a household rate. This allows them to monitor your traffic and sell the data. Unfortunately, I have my own routers and modems, and they say I must get a business rate and service. Use a VPN such as the FireFox VPN and DuckDuckGo for searches.

Depending where towers are at, I have the T-Mobile gateway
at $55 a month. Could'nt be happier after almost 2 years now.
It's an unlimited data stream. I'll never have cable or fiber again.
How is this at streaming TV? I have seriously been considering making this switch.

6BRA,

Same problems with T-Mobile access as with MediaCom monitoring your data. You'll notice this by the number of text messages the service device accumulates for your search items. Also, the equipment would not work correctly with your own router due to pass through routing not being able to be used. Speeds were decent, usually 150mb/s in the Alabama/Columbus GA area.

My T-Mobile is generally over 300 mps daily. At times it drops off but
not enough to boot me off anything. Most problems I have is with the
server itself sending data. I can change servers easily. Sometimes using
Ookla, my T-Mobile tower server will say .5 miles away. I'll change to a
server point that say's 10 miles away and get faster speeds. Sometimes
it's not the actual signal but a over worked server in the loop. I'm in
Erie Pa and always get the best thru put from T-Mobiles servers in Detroit ??

My current download speed as of a minute ago.......

I ran a speed test just last night, with my kids streaming video games, movies, TV, etm, I was at 682mbps upload and 663mbps download. Monthly data usage for my household is normally in the range of 1.4-1.5TB. 24 hour usage as of 2300 last night was 142GB. With 3 teenagers, the missus' work is all digital, and we stream TV and music, $70 a month and barely a hiccup in service. Download speed 1 floor up and opposite side of house to my ancient smartphone was 132mbps.

I do have a range extender that receives 5ghz and puts out 2.4ghz that I use just for the TVs and other devices upstairs to help me keep track of whats on which network (digital parenting, pausing connection), but they can connect to main network just fine, too.

I have Xfinity Home internet. I dumped the cable TV programming aspect and stream 100%. So far, it's been pretty solid and very fast. I'm in a rural area and there are occasional outages, but I think I'm lucky to have it.

STARLINK and never look back. The stuff is amazing.
It's maybe fine if your rural with no other viable service, but dang;
Musk is a little proud of his product !! In my area Starlink wants
$120 just to start and up to only 220 mps. Most other services
will double the speed for 1/2 the cost, but then again, if you have
no other options, and Musk knows that in his pricing......

SPECTRUM

After calls about every six months and threats to cancel because of their increased cost, my rate now (for the last six months anyway) is $69 per month. I just checked the speed and it is 366 Mbps Download and 322 Mbps Upload. The download speed has been over 300 for a while, but I had never seen the Upload speed above 15 Mbps until I checked today. This is for internet and telephone land line.

I canceled our Netflix yesterday because of it.
Spread the word. Netflix' endorsement of Kackles needs to go viral.

I'm not dropping Spectrum. I get my TV and Internet through the cable. I was able to negotiate a lower price but it's not cheap. Their service response is excellent, though, and no matter who your provider is, there's no such thing as 100% uptime. I like my HDTV glitch free. My friends who "stream" are always apologizing for the random "blur". "Don't worry, it'll come back sharp in a few more seconds." I don't need gamer download speeds, any YouBoob videos I watch are just fine.
