Interesting barrel --- what to do?

Hey JB, Paul, and company. Finally got around to posting something.

So I received this 6mmBR barrel recently, and I'm unsure what to do with the sucker. It's a used BR barrel, stainless, 4-groove, in a 'light' length,23") and contour, see pics). Appears to have been set up for a block or sleeved Remington action, no space for a recoil lug on the threads. Throat and lands look fine. This is actually from the same vintage as a .308 barrel that I've been shooting for 800rds+ with success, so I have a feeling that it has a lot of life left unless you're trying to stay in the 1's/low 2's.

I probably would have already built this into a tactical rig, except that it's got 1) a slow twist around 1:13, and 2) a .266 neck. I really want to get into the 6BR realm, mostly from this site, thanks Paul ), but not under these twist and neck terms. Looking at info on this site, it appears that right now everyone is thinking the same way, i.e. fast twists and loose necks. While a little machine work on the contour and recoil lug recess would be pretty cheap and harmless, running a reamer up there would be asking for trouble IMHO, and not worth it on a used barrel. Although a 200yd dime-puncher would be fun, I just don't have the resources to go in all directions at once. It's tempting to find a cheap 700 action and fit the sucker, bolting it into my AICS from time to time, but the demands of tight-neck reloading are not on my list of things to do more of.

So......what should I do? Is there any demand for these specs at all? Sell/trade it? Dink with it? Use it to hold the door open? WWJBD?

Well, I'm probably one of the very few that is thinking slower twist, tight neck, and light bullets. I am tinkering with 12 twist barrels, and a .266 neck in a 10.5lb gun. You can cleanly get down to .264 in one pass without a problem. You just have to ask yourself if you want to go through the trouble of turning. It is a trouble that I find worth while to get perfect neck tension and fit. I do not enjoy turning at all, but I do it for this rig. I have about 750 rounds down the first barrel. I shot it the first time in competition against a field of 23 ppc's a few weeks back in an NBRSA HV group shoot. I finished 8th overall, 15th in the AM agg, and 4th in the PM agg. I'd say your barrel is probably not door stop material, but do you want to go through the trouble of turning?

Glad you made it scotty ;)

WWJBD...LMFAO!!

Looks like something Darrel Holland did for his V-block arrangement...

I'd run a .272nk reamer in it and shoot 75gn v-max for critters...and do another barrel in an 8tw after you fall in love with the 6BR ;)

JB, you know your stuff. This IS from Holland, as was my .308 barrel. I just don't like re-reaming chambers unless you're gonna REALLY re-ream them. I could, I guess...
