Interapid for barrel work

So Its official Im tired of fighting with the tools I currently have and Im wanting a interapid indicator dedicated for barrel indicating only. What is the model that is best for the task.

There are a lot of counterfeit Interapids on Ebay, If the price looks to good to be true, It probably is. I would buy it from MSC or somewhere like it.

It's the best one I've ever used.

You need to know…it doesn’t matter to the real machinists but the one above spins backwards (meaning counterclockwise) and the one with a V operates in a normal clockwise. One would think it would work but after the third barrel I indicated and after moving the barrel the wrong direction…I had a near miss with almost throwing it across the shop. I went to the V and I agree with the guys above but I’d just soon not have one that works backwards…my simpleton mind just couldn’t.

I do like mine…it’s the difference between a nice Swiss watch versus a Timex. Sure the Timex will work but man is the Swiss watch nice.

I like the Mitytoyo 513 series because I can reach into a rough drilled hole and indicate the throat in my Benchrest Chambers without such a long stylus.

I agree, some of the prices of good indicators will give ya sticker shock
I really like my Federal Testmasters Yellow Face .0001" for the price
But Do recommend a long stylus with whatever brand you choose.

I like earlier Brown & Sharpe
I don't see that brand in the Comparison though? Strange, (same as Tesa is why I guess?)
I like the looks of those P- Line gauges
But then looked them up
I am NOT paying $600 for an indicator, lol, as nice as they may be.

Interapid: where do you find the "V" ? I'm thinking the "V" is in place of the "B"....? 312B-15 in the one shown under the part number pictured by Alfred

Just add the V at the end…I think Penn Tool is where I got mine. So 312b-15v

I'm no expert and I know we are only measuring relative movements. These indicators need a 12 degree angle to read correctly, with the vertical you're going to be at 90 degrees give or take.

I own the regular one that runs the dial "backwards" and don't have a problem with it.
