You’re right, I did state that as if it was a fact. I should have said that’s how my brain perceives benefits of ID/OD neck turning.
I wouldn’t even consider turning inside necks. There are so many areas of your reloading process that you could much better spend your hard earned money and time on. Trust me. The vast majority of us competition shooters are not turning inside necks. Hell, one of our dashers has won a bunch of competitions and it isn’t even using brass with outside turned necks (Lapua 6BR fire formed to 6 dasher, with standard .0127” neck thickness).

Well the most enjoyable part of reloading for me is the experimentation. Hypothesize, test, analyze, over and over and over. If this doesn’t work, no big deal. Everything I have done this far has given me pretty great results in a very short amount of time, and yes it’s made me a little obsessed. It keeps my mind entertained, and it’s much healthier than sitting on my ass playing Xbox every night!
But if I am able to achieve as good or better accuracy, then I’ll go through the trouble of taking my magnetospeed to the range later this week and see how it improved my ES/SD. I will say my neck thickness right now isn’t ideal at .0122” but I’m hoping with these two mandrels I ordered will help me retain a little more thickness on my next batch.

Wouldnt you think that the finish left by drawing over a mandrel from the factory would be better for a bullet to slide in than any type of machined surface?
If you’re asking me, yes. The OP I thought was talking about inside neck turning. I thought I was clear my inside necks might see a nylon brush once. Now of course when opening the neck up say from 6 to 30 yes a mandrel leaves a smoother finish.
You lost me with your question which of course was in the form of sarcasm

If you are truly obsessed with accuracy you are going to have to up your brass game and spend a little more on better brass. Also, I don’t see mandrels affecting your neck thickness one bit. Not sure why you think they will help you retain more thickness in the necks. Calculate what clearance you want to your chamber and then turn your necks accordingly. Stop wasting your time turning inside necks. I’m willing to bet it’s likely doing more harm than good at this point.
