Inline reloading ?

I’m considering reloading 6XC cartridges inline. I have no equipment nor personal experience in this process. My understanding is that it will produce the minimal runout possible. I would appreciate suggestions on presses, dies and procedure. Thanks in advance, folks.

I use a lot of Wilson inline seating dies because they are easy to make with a chamber reamer. Have the 2nd Gen 21st century arbor press and have zero complaints.

Wilson makes neck sizing dies, but there is no inline die that will FL size a case to my knowledge. Cases would get stuck with no way to pull them from the die.
For FL sizing I still use standard style threaded dies. Most of my die sets these days consist of a custom Wilson inline seater and a Whidden bushing FL sizer die. Sizing done on a RCBS Rock Chucker or Redding T7 press and seating done with the 21st arbor press. Works well for me.

Maybe inline reloading is progressive reloading? Lots of info on this forum about progressive presses.

I’m referring to the use of an arbor press. I know folks who shoot much better than I, who reload in this manner. I am trying to educate myself on the whole process. I now use standard threaded dies and am trying to decide wether switching to an inline system is worth the extra expense. The dies I currently use are a combination of Redding, Forster and Whidden, if that makes things any clearer.

For BR stuff I use threaded Harrell’s and Whidden sizing dies and arbor press custom seater dies made by my gunsmith using my reamers.

Having custom dies made with a reamer was suggested to me a couple of weeks ago. This makes good sense. Unfortunately I do not own the reamers used to cut this barrel. The next time that I have a new barrel installed, I’ve decided to buy my own reamers. This will give the option of having dies made as well. I would think that Wilson could manufacture a die in the present from my fired brass. May I assume that this will indeed eliminate most runout?

You dont need to "own" the reamer. Only thing that matters is that the die is the same as your chamber. Just have Wilson seater blank in the appropriate caliber ready for when you take your barrel and action in for chambering and fitting. Then the gunsmith can chamber the barrel and the die at the same time.

Wilson makes many Wildcat and SAAMI seater dies as well if you dont want the added expense of making a custom die. As a ready made die, they are not any more expensive than other dies. And honestly you dont even need an arbor press. For many years the inline dies were also referred to as "hand dies" because you can literally use the dies by holding them in your hand on a table and hitting them with a rubber mallet. That's how I first started using the Wilson inline seaters. Didnt get an arbor press until later. Cant see the difference on paper either. The arbor press just allows you to 'feel' the neck tension/seating pressure really well. Should easily be able to find a good arbor press for $100-$120. No arbor press is really better than the next because all they are doing is pushing a stem down on the die. They all get the job done well.
