Inletting Insanity

I've got a stash of .625 and .750 diameter tungsten rods that were originally used in Coolidge style XRay tubes as the anode for XRay production. Phased out in favor of the rotating tungsten discs as the anode, our department used them in our Radiology School for teaching the physics of XRay production.

Great stock weights. :) -Al

I've used a piece of a wooden hammer handle, bored out to size I need and poured it full of molten lead. Split it open after lead has cooled for custom weight. Be easy to do with rod of aluminum and pre-split it, then clamp it together for pour.

What I will do temporarily is just have the tungsten held in by the butt plate. I'll have to remove it and swap barrels when I shoot IBS. When I finish my new IBS LG, I'll epoxy in the tungsten and this will be my NBRSA LG and possible Rendevous rifle.

Looking good my friend!
What’s your plan for adding weight ? I’m a little light myself..
i use 3/4" OD copper tubing. fill it with lead and it slips right in a 3/4 drill bit hole nice and snug. can make them as long as needed and can usually find cheap. most stocks you can get one on top and bottom of butt plate if careful. if you have a foam filled stock you gotta get some of that spray foam to hold in place where you drill out the powdered crap. coat the copper with PAM or other release agent and it will slip out and leave a nice new channel

I am going to use the same idea to add weight to the stock I’m building.

These are stub out pipes that are already capped and the same diameter the full length in case you’re going to remove them. Should work well.

1/2" or 3/4" black iron pipe nipples from the scrap metal box, set them upright on a piece of metal plate, pour them full of lead.
