Inlet for recoil lug on Rem 700

A few years ago I bought a used McMillan A-5 stock thinking I was going to love it. In fact, I gave my factory Sendero stock away to someone who needed it. Well, as time went on I became less thrilled about the A-5. Love the stock, HATE the hook design on the stock. Untill I replace it with a high dollar stock I was going to find a used sendaro stock. Problem is that I have an upgraded recoil lug..... .25 inch , and would need to chizzle away some of the bedding in front of the lug to make things fit. How important is the bedding in front of the recoil lug? Does the front of the lug need to touch bedding material, or just the back?.

Thanks,
Tod

You can,t hurt it. If you do remove too much, just re-bed. Just my two cents Tommy Mc

If you have access to a milling machine, it's an easy fix. For bedding put masking tape on the front and sides of the lug.

On a happy note...I DIDN"T give my Sendero stock away....it was hidden in places less traveled!! But...All I had for tools is a 3/4 inch chizzle and a flat head screw driver. And guess what....the lugs is not only thicker, but wider AND deeper. I've got quire a mess going on!!!!

3/4 inch chisel? Might be touch and go, better go slow. Surely someone you know in Walhalla has a Dremel tool with a nice rotary bit.
