Info needed on a tripod

There is a fellow on YouTube that comes by the name, "Coyote Down". Any members familiar with the name of the tripod he uses? It's a guy, his wife, and a young daughter shooting coyotes.

I just jumped on YouTube to help you. I found an episode in the snow before he painted it tan later on. It’s a rrs (really right stuff) tripod and ball head. Very pricey. Watch close you can see their symbol/logo on tripod

Thank you my friend.

Just checked out the tripod. Ouch! It is pricey. Would like to find something for my AR. Gotta check how many pennies I have left after Christmas.

For under $25 you can make a pair of shooting cross sticks that work just fine in the field. I have been using them for over 25 years now for both varmint and predator hunting. I have, to date, taken 2, 014 groundhogs and over 100 predators with this system.

Combined with a lightweight portable sportsman's chair, varmint / predator grade accuracy is capable with this system. However, all my experience is 300 yards and under with this system.

They are much lighter than tripods, no fumbling with adjusting legs thus cross sticks lend themselves to rapid deployment when stalking. The downside is that it does take some practice to become proficient with them and you will get strange looks at the range shooting off cross sticks.

The vortex radian is a good tripod and ball head pricy though. Two vets are another good brand. The bogpod isn’t bad with a ball head I just couldn’t get used to their clamp style

Check out Whelen and Enoral on amazon. $400 ish with leveling head, then you can decide on saddle, ball head or arca for the top.

If you don't mind shameless knock-offs and want a good RRS replica check out Leofoto products at B&H or wherever. RRS is great stuff but because it's made here and has the status it's pretty much the highest cost in camera gear. When you're hanging $10k-35k of still camera equipment off them you really do want the best offered and a decade or more back that meant RRS ballheads and other components. Later on they started offering their tripods as a replacement for Gitzo and a few others. RRS also saw the shooting market years ago and created SOAR, which is basically the same stuff plus some custom shooting components and you can find the SOAR tab off their main page. I have a couple Leofoto L brackets I picked up when they only made a few items, every bit as good as RRS for a fraction of the price but mostly they assured their products were 100% to RRS Arca spec which basically means when you use quick clamps you know they will all clamp up exactly the same. Don't matter when you use screw clamps but in the photo world quick clamps often mean the difference between getting the shot or not. I haven't used Leofoto tripods or ball heads but I'm guessing they are well made, not RRS well made, but probably 90%+ there vs the plethora of really cheap crap that is just that.

Innorel 90 on amazon seems to be the hot ticket on a budget. I did a lot of research. I had 3k in car repairs get in the way, but its next.

I am looking (hard) at the Leofoto LN-364C. Carbon Fiber, supports up to 77lbs. Up to 64" tall. About $450.

I refuse to pay stupid money for a tripod when Leofoto works so well.

Once upon a time I had four tripods, including 90 & 80 Innorels, 90's great if you don't get far from the truck.

I've since trimmed back to two Lefotos, a LS-384C & a LS-324C, both topped with their LB-65 leveling base for all my coyote hunting.

The smaller, lighter 324 gets the bulk of the use when sitting, & will work for standing in a pinch.

If I know I'm going be standing, I'll grab the 384.

I don’t know if it’s the best option, but I use a kopfjager k700 tripod with their reaper grip, and I can’t find anything to complain about.

Make your own Bi-Fur-Pod.
It is easy and should take about an hour.

Mine are constructed of 1/2" diameter solid aluminum rod with 12" of rubber heater hose on the one end to keep the rifle stable. The other ends are ground to a point for secure implant into ground. The sticks are bound with 3/4" Velcro.

Light weight - stable (no flex) - easily adjustable for just about any elevation needed - best part - cheap. ;)

So. with the model for shooting while sitting what do I need so that it will hold an AR? Sorry for the question. Honestly, I have never used a tripod.

Those tripods are RRS. I’d personally go with the Elevate 3 from Fatboy Tripods specifically for hunting since it is lower than the elevate 2 when collapsed for hunting yotes.. Leofoto is alright. I’ve used both, but the Fatboy tripod is leagues above the Leofoto tripods. The Fatboy tripods also have deployable spikes in the feet, a lotttttt less flex in the legs and the legs lock into position better than the Leofoto. Both in how legs lock/unlock to get wider and the adjustment to make the legs longer.

In addition to the tripod itself, you'll need either a ball head or a leveling base that screws on top of the tripod. A ball head has more range of motion, but a leveling base sits lower & has all the range of movement needed in most any hunting situations.

Ball heads: https://leofoto.com/products.php?cateid=58

Leveling base: https://leofotousa.com/collections/leveling-base

Then you need a clamp: https://leofotousa.com/collections/screw-knob-clamps

Finally an ARCA plate for on the gun:https://www.area419.com/product/arcalock-4-universal-dovetail-rail/
