Indicating 5R Barrel

Does anyone have any best practices for indicating barrels for breech/muzzle work if they are a 5R? I’ve just been resorting to rods instead of being able to dial in directly.

I've always just used a grizzly/Gordy rod with the correct size bushing.

On top of the lands with an indicator, with attention to the groove and its characteristics

I dial in directly. Get close on the outside then go inside. With screws finger tight I get close again. Then I look at total swing on the dial. I use the zero as the middle and then when I'm at one extreme I move the saddle to split the total.
Example
Finger tight I have .008" total
Rotate barrel till I'm on either the +/- side.
Move the saddle till the indicator is either +4 or -4
Tweak screws until you get to zero.
For me a 4 groove takes longer because I do so few of them.
I use a pin gage on the muzzles.

I use a Grizzly rod first, then verify with a dial on the lands.

I just use my normal method using a long stem interapid.
They really aren’t that much of a hassle to indicate.
The highs are still the highs and the lows are still the lows.

Tighten slowly, incrementally at the end. Sneak up on it. Don't over tighten until you're done

You can slide the proper bushing in the barrel where you want it, then indicate inside the bushing. Then a small amount of fine tune direct.

Another tip use the smallest diameter probe I use .015
