IMR 4198 for 6PPC

I have a new to us 6ppc arriving today. Thank you Mr Hankins.

I went powder shopping yesterday, and the best option I found available was IMR 4198. Has anyone used this in 6PPC?

Worst case, I use it for something else and keep looking.

Thanks for any insight.

I shot a PPC in Score competition a few years ago with Swiss Precision Powder 210 and did well with it. It had a burn rate very near IMR 4198. Actually it falls between IMR 4198 and H-4198. The kernals even looked very similar. For a 6 PPC USA case driving a 68 gr. the Berger manual lists 21.5 gr. as a start load/ max. = 23.7gr. of IMR 4198. I believe this is for Sako brass so the loads might be on the anemic side, but work up slowly.

A fellow named Don Geraci, aka Ragin' Cajun, more, or, less, shot his way into the (point-blank group) Hall of Fame using the combination of 6PPC/4198 - I do not recall which variety (though I suspect it was the Hodgdon version) . . . that was before the internet . . .;) RG

Yes, anemic for Sako old balloon head cases also.

Talked to a HoF be shooter and world renowned gunsmith about 4198. He told me that 4198 will rarely shoot real small but never shoots big.
