IMR 4166 in a dasher

I picked up a pound of the new IMR 4166 this evening and took it straight to my range. I bought this powder hoping it would be another solid choice for my 6mm dasher. I started at 30gr and worked up slow all the way up to 33grains. 30 grains didn't shoot worth a hoot, and 33grains my bolt was just starting to feel sticky.
I was shooting some James Eazor 6mm 106gr bullets, and I found some really fantastic accuracy at the higher end of my testing. 32.3 to 32.7 was shooting as good or maybe even a little better than what I have so far seen with varget. I will continue to test in the AM and compare this powder against Varget and RE15 . I didn't set my chrono up tonight so I don't have any ideas about velocity. I have a feeling that this powder is a tad bit faster than varget so im guessing my speed will be there when I set up tomorrow and check. Lee

Just a wild guess on my part; but it seems like 4166 has a burning rate closer to 4064 and 4895 than Varget. With near max loads; it shot as well or better in my .308 and Dasher loads.

Liked 4166 a real lot in 7.5 twist Dasher with Berger 108s at 300 yd. No chronograph info though.

I shot my dasher a bit more this morning. I used Varget and This new IMR powder. The IMR was hands down the better powder for my particular barrel. Like said above , the IMR shot best at or near max loads. Im sold on it and I will purchase an 8LB jug. If available that is. Lee

Did you have the Chrono set up to compare velocities between the two?
Just bought a lb. of the 4166 to test also. What's your Varget charge?

4166 runs a higher pressure than Varget
In a .308 Palma rifle with 155 gr. bullets to get the needed 2984 + FPS the Pressure is 60000 PsI.
.308 is rated at 54000 ??
4064 and H4895 operate lower.

I didn't set up my chrono yet. my varget load was 32.7gr and my 4166 was 33. fairly close. I will check velocity real soon. Lee
