IMR 4064

I DON'T NO ABOUT THE 175'S I TELL U THIS MINE LOVES THIS POWDER W/155GR VLD'S BERGERS

It is a great powder. It is a real staple of 308 reloading. That said, most competitive shooters have moved to Varget because you can fit a little more in the case with 155's.

I still use it for 175's.

Good luck,
Keith

Here ya go for the 308

My load is 42.3 grns IMR 4064 with the Sierra 175 MK Lapua brass and fed210m primers

Very excellent powder for the 308, similar to Varget in performance. Produced outstanding results for me with 150 and 165 grain bullets.

Never used in a 223.

My go to powders for the 223 (depending on bullet weight) are: Varget, 4895 (IMR OR H), Benchmark, H335.

I have also had good luck with imr 4064. It has worked well in the 308; 30-06; 22-250; 243win and of course the 220 swift.

Funny but that's my load too. From testing a couple weeks ago I got 2680 fps avg, SD of 10, and nice tight groups at 100, 200, and 300 yards. Measured .318 MOA at all three distances, shooting from bipod and rear sandbag.

My rifle also shows another accuracy node with 43.9 gr and an SMK. 2719 fps avg with SD of 11 but ES was 50% higher at 30.

I'm sticking with the 42.3 as it's easier on my cases and accuracy is just as good.

What's even better is the fact that I was actually able to buy a case of IMR-4064 this last week and Varget is still nowhere on the horizon out here in the "upper left armpit"

My Father and I have used IMR4064 in a number of loads over the years with great accuracy and consistency... I have good results in 30-06, .308, 22-250, .280 and even 220 swift

Its a horrible powder, I wouldn't use it if I were you. ;D

If it's available it's a fantastic powder. Especially when the others have fallen into a wormhole somewhere in the galaxy.

On the burn rate chart IMR 4064 falls about half way between H4895 and RE15. So, does anyone think it might work ok in 6BR/6BRX/Dasher etc.

Gary.

FWIW my only complaint about 4064 is that it meters terribly. Very crunchy and bulky, bt VERY versatile. I think it will serve your needs in both calibers.
cheers,
Doc

This is one of the few powders our local Walmarts carry. I have seen it sitting all by itself several times in the last few weeks. Later! Frank

Not if you're using an RCBS Chargemaster. 8) 8) Load at the range? Just get a battery holder from Radio shack or a UPS/Alarm/Emergency lighting battery from your local battery store. (just remember to charge it before going to the range ::) )

Very good powder. I've used it in my 308 in place of IMR4895. I have an old NRA handloading book approximately 50 years old which states 4064 is the civilian version of 4895. Its a lot bulkier but worked okey for me. However, for thrown powder charges, 4895 metered much better.

It does not meter well. I have chargemaster and I have to watch the over charges. I used to get an under or over in about 1 of 20. With 4064 its been 1 in 10. But I like it. It shoots well. I feel like it has a little more recoil than imr 4895 but it could be me. My gun likes it shooting 175 smk. I also found 2 charges that group well. One with 42.5 and one one with 44grs. Now I have to play with exact weights to get it better.
