Importance of staying supersonic at the target?

I know shooters do well in 308. It's a good cartridge & they're great shooters.
I don't mean to solicit every anecdotal instance of 308 good-shooting to a mile.

I'm just suggesting that one surefire fix to the subject at hand, is to choose a better suited bullet and matching better suited cartridges to steer clear of the issue all together.
I'm sure this is just what most shooters in IBS do.
An example: http://www.pa1000yard.com/wo/choosewostandings.php
Search the top lists here & you'll find zero 308 Winchesters.
This is because the 308Win is not required.

Given a choice these days for 1000 yard matches using shoulder fired rifles, the nod goes to the 6.5x.284 for most folks. 1/4th the barrel life of a .308 Win., but easier to shoot accurately 'cause of it's lighter recoil and excellent wind bucking abilities with heavy, high BC bullets.
