I'm changing directions.

For 2020 I am returning to shooting a 6mm Dasher for 600 yards. I have shot the 6 BRA for the last two years and I just could not get the hang of it. It is probably me but after long consideration, I am going back to the cartridge with which I had success. Originally, I planned to quit after this year, but traded for a new 7.83 twist Brux barrel and decided to have it chambered for the Dasher. When I wear it out, I am definitely quitting. Also, I have struggled to find good lots of H4895 and Varget. For 2020, I plan to use Re 15 or 8208 XBR.

One powder you forgot to mention>>>VV N540. I had a "finicky" 6mm Dasher. So I tried N540 knowing it was a "barrel burner". However, nothing else worked to my liking. That barrel, along with N540, turned out to be the most accurate barrel I had, thanks to N540! You will lose about 200 or so rounds of barrel life, but the gains in speed and accuracy were incredible. I was shooting a Berger 105VLD with 33.0grs of N540 and it shot "generally" around .5" at 300 yards and was travelling at 3070f.p.s.! I believe if you try a pound of it you may be sold.. Besides how can 1 pound hurt anything??

Haha I'm like you. Went back to 6BRX after a few barrels of 6BRA. Tried everything
Have you thought about trying H4350 in dasher. 35.1gr with 105gr hybrids is working a treat for me in a barrel that I rechambered from 6BRA that i couldn't get to work ..need a long drop powder funnel tho..

Glad to hear your staying in the game for one more barrel.. The best of luck..

Send me that lederer back and ill make it a dasher too
Dusty. the Lederer is a great barrel and it shoots better than me. I have 960 rounds on it and I will use it for a backup to the Dasher. I believe that my problems with the BRA were from 2 causes: 1) being almost 76 years old with a bad neck and 2) inconsistent H4895 powder. I may be wrong, but I am going back to dance with "who brung me".

what could be better than a dasher as a backup to a dasher?

It's like the "H" powders have two problem. (1) they are out of stock when you need them (2) when they are in stock, the new batch is nothing like the batch you worked up your loads on. I just ordered two lbs. of Shooters World, and N140 to try in my 6BR. Might as well try something else for a while. Last night I was down in the basement fooling around, and two blue bottles of IMR 4064 were looking at me like, "hey, I used to be the best powder you had, how about another chance?" Might as well give it a spin too!

At least RL15 is predictable. Good Luck!

BRX guy here also. Varget has always worked for me in close to 20 barrels. Only exception was a Douglas that I gave away. after 2 tries with it. Maybe that was one that just did not like Varget. Biggest thing I had to learn after coming from the short range game and the PPCs, always shot them with a hard jam,but sometimes the long heavy bullets like to jump, or maybe even leap.

R16 (one grain faster than h4350), r15 (Varget), and AR comp (to replace H4895). I do not think you will see lots all over the place.

Some people are getting insane performance from R16 in the Dasher but you have to use a long drop tube.

That would be a sensible option, but with 960 rounds, it may be too late to cut it off and rechamber. It is very accurate at 300 yards but I cannot get it to a winning score at 600 (again, it is probably me). I shot 8 scores in the 190's (set the range record twice) with three Dasher barrels and with three BRA barrels, I have zero 190 or better scores. I have about 20 wins with Dashers and only one or two 300 yard wins with the BRA. Even Bart told me that I should consider returning to the Dasher and I will see how it works out. We are shooting our final 2019 600 yard match on 12/21. I will be shooting the BRA since Uncle Billy has my barrel to chamber (he will use the same Dasher reamer that he used on my other Dashers). Why don't you drive down and see if you can help me with my BRA problems. We are going to have awards and prizes plus Rickey Reeves is going to have some elk chili. Come join us if you can. Good shooting....James

RL-16 is 2 grains bulkier, so you loose verses H4350 and you can't get enough H4350 in a Dasher to get the vertical outing I have a good number of small hole drops tubes..... jim

I don't understand what you mean by "2 grains bulkier so you loose". Could you explain whet you mean?

I know there are several guys using R16 and getting good results in Dasher at 1000. I've seen the targets.
