I rented just the reamer. Not the kit, just the reamer. Is it the unithroater or a standard throater?
That should be sfpm ... ,surface feet per minute, not rpm...revolutions per min. 90sfpm @ 1" dia is ~340 rpm. 70 sfpm is ~270 rpm. Very easy mistake to make. Machine tool speed calculations are all made in sfpm. The rpm is dependent on the diameter of the part. This Carmex insert is sold on ebay for a very good price. According to Carmex, this black insert is made for SS at slow speeds of 90 rpm, I am running 70-119. At 70 rpm, the threads are absolutely beautiful. I had been using the gold insert but they are 2.5x the money of the black insert due to sellers.
These carmex inserts are darn hard to dull, very high quality product at a very good price. I am sure that I bought enough for my grand children

I did not mean to, as my Greek sucks. I think there are certain details that are necessary to at least do satisfactory work when threading. Using the right tooling as you are doing, has a large effect on the outcome. You cannot make good threads with the wrong or crappy tooling. You have found that out. On the photo Bully posted, his threads are totally affected buy his tooling. With the right tool his work would be as good as most others are doing.TRA, I gave him instructions that a novice can understand, which would be the settings on the lathe. You are talking greek to him.
I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night, I’m good!TRA, I gave him instructions that a novice can understand, which would be the settings on the lathe. You are talking greek to him.
Thanks for that info Ackleyman. I’ll look into these inserts. This Carmex insert is sold on ebay for a very good price. Thanks for the info on this Bamban—. I will look into this more.Hoz,
Here is another version of threading at higher speed. This was accomplished using the Zero location in the DRO and have a software interface to stop the spindle thru the VFD once carriage travel count gets to zero. The video was done during testing. Threading into a relief cut to within 0.001 is no problem.
I have since settled on the proximity sensor.

Make sure your bolt handle isn't hitting on that 722 ( 40x) stock . They were made for straight bolt handles .I got her done!
Range report next week.
I have 90 minutes in that fix...Make sure your bolt handle isn't hitting on that 722 ( 40x) stock . They were made for straight bolt handles .
Good luck !
Why is the buttstock of those 40x stocks cut off at such an angle?Make sure your bolt handle isn't hitting on that 722 ( 40x) stock . They were made for straight bolt handles .
Good luck !
Open sights , hi power , 3 position . The later 700 based stocks had a different profile .Why is the buttstock of those 40x stocks cut off at such an angle?
yes it does sort if—should i cut them strait for bench shooting?Open sights , hi power , 3 position . The later 700 based stocks had a different profile .
The pitch , while widely used in shotgunning can alter your sling shooting a lot .
Hope that makes sense .
Nope , unless it bothers you but your shoulder shouldn't be touching it anyway . That's why super lightweight triggers are needed/used .yes it does sort if—should i cut them strait for bench shooting?
Congratulations !I got her done!
Range report next week.
Thank you.Congratulations !
I love this stock for what it is. I’d like it to be a bit more adjustable but it works well enough.Interesting stock...
How do you rate the ergonomics?
Got me thinking about picking one up to use as a pattern to cut one from laminate on my duplicator...
