I'm A Baaaaaaadddd Man!!

One of the vids that we watched, was of the White Settlement Texas church shooting where the perp pulled a shotgun from beneath a trench coat. One of the security team was within arms reach of the guy, and took three seconds trying to unlimber his handgun before the guy stepped back and unloaded on him..

In this particular case, the good guy probably would have done better (and lived) if he had simply grabbed the guy and hugged him close. There was much help close by, one of which killed the bad guy with a running head shot, but only after he killed two good men. jd
That incident was a total fail from GO. Just how a guy in a wig, with a trench coat and a shotty IN HIS PANTS was allowed to enter, let alone go to the front row, sit, stand, and the initial response was to put someone "near him" is an indication that this team practiced REACTION, not intervention. The team leader was one hell of a shot, but they trained to shoot, not to stop a situation before it turned into a problem. It takes a certain kind of person, and a strong sense of confidence (it helps if there is a big insurance policy held on your behalf) and constant realistic scenario training to be willing to walk up to an "itchy" in a crowd, firmly confront (in a Christian manner of course) and be willing to go to ground based on your observation, your training and your ability. That shooter should have never made it past the threshold of that church, and after a firm hello, a warm and smiling stop, and polite demands of going no further he should have been controlled. THAT takes skills.

JD, so glad you are getting some training.

By the time the guns come out, in a very real way something has already been lost. Now, don't interpret what I just said as some wimpy whiny lefty pie in sky anti-gun utterance. What I am saying is it is very hard to intervene based on a gut...cause if you are wrong you get sued, looked at like a crazy paranoid, a racist, a homophobe or a warmonger. But it is in protecting (think secret service) that the real hard stuff and decison making happens. Physical control techniques, restraints (cuffs?) OC spray and the willingness to win, right now, not in some extended "rassling" match are a must for a church security team.

Snert's assessment above is spot on. Any situation that requires this kind of action, sucks from the get-go. At least so far we're not experiencing the pain of the early church whose leaders were commonly tortured to death by a very powerful and organized enemy.

A church congregation is typically called a "flock" and that's not too far from right, with most folks being easy prey to the "wolves" that are getting more common in our fallen world. I think the day is coming when we're all gonna have to do much better to PREVENT, and failing that handle the situations that are being seen all too often in churches these days. :( jd

You go jds, it is never to late to start. As we get older we get weaker, there are a lot of reasons for this and one of the worst ones I listened to was Doctors telling myself and others not to do this or that. If you don't keep moving, you end up being not able to do what you still can.

Closed fist punches result in a lot of broken hands or wrists for those that don’t know the proper technique to punching. Heel striking is far safer and honestly just as effective especially in the heat of battle.

Oh yeah, slapping the shit outta someone!!
They have slapping competitions now, kind of fun to watch grown men and women put the SMACK down on their opponent.

For very simple to harder programs that will help you regain your ability to protect yourself or just be able to walk out to check your targets at the 300yd range. I have found that the programs by Dr. Paul Lam will work to very gently get you back in shape no matter your age or ability. The website is Tai Chi for health by Dr. Paul Lam, the one I started with was Tai Chi for arthritis since I have chronic arthritis.

I should also ad that he has I believe over thirty different programs on that website to address many of the issues we get as we get older including exercises for those who use wheelchairs.

Or, I have some friends that have found something that seems to be effective. They traded in and married chicks thirty years younger than they are. They never seem to have a dull moment.

I am scratching my head. Don’t think I could stand it. 65 years old with children in middle school.

Downside of that is that many chicks that are thirty years younger, would fully intend to kill ya as part of the deal. Now I guess a guy would have to decide if it was worth it maybe?? jd

I'm a Sheepdog.....Always have been.....It's in my nature. Not paranoid, just aware.....I am glad more people are choosing to train to take better care of themselves in emergencies. The vast majority of folks freeze.

Regards
Rick

As of June we will be the same age. I am of good health but I am very aware of my physical condition. So my 43X is always on my person.
I just shot my new Hellcat Pro for the first time. Nice shooter and it holds 15 +1. Not much but a little bigger than my 43x. Good sights, too. You should check one out.

Very glad to hear about folks taking up protection in church good for you
Was just talking to an old fellow today at work about packing heat at church.good for you.
Even with some churches having off duty cops as security.we need folks prepared

The game of getting old is not for the faint of heart. My younger friends I always give them some advice, “Don’t get any older”. But the clock catches up.
