illuminated reticle

what is a good scope with a illuminated reticle? I'm looking for a variable in the 4-12x range with dots for hold overs...I like Leupolds. any recommendations?

All the lighted reticules I looked through were worse then the regular reticule. I would get a good light gathering scope and forget about a lighted reticule. I have looked through a couple and don'tlike them. I have Nightforces and the first thing I do is take out the batteries. Matt

Agree, very rare to need a lighted reticle for hunting. By the time you need it the light is so poor you can hardly see the target and it will be at close range. Get a 50-56mm objective with a heavy reticle with high quality optics.

I agree with the other posters. In over 50 years of hunting, I've never needed one.....ever.

If you feel you really need this device, check out the Trijicon line of scopes...no batteries to go south, and they're in use by our USMC, Delta, SEALS, and regular Army units deployed and have illuminated reticles.

I agree also, have several Nightforce scopes and have only turned them on enough to know it doesn't help a thing in low light. Tends to wash out your view of the target even when adjusted so it's very dim.

Take a look at the Meopta brand of scopes. I use their 1-4 k-dot scope. This scope has a simple reticle which you can squire quick and is one of the very few that the illumination is visible in bright sunlight. The optical quality is very good, also.

contrary to the previous post i have the Leupold VXR s and i use the illumination all the time. of course i hunt alot at night but have also found that i prefer the illumination even during the day. i find alot depends on the conditions and the actual object u are shooting at.

Trijicon has a lighted crosshair dot only. I feel you get the benefit of an illuminated crosshair without all the light noise.

I use both the Trijicon and VX-R scopes. A 3-9 and 2.5-10 in the Trijicon and 3-9 and 4-12 Leupold. All work well, I think the Trijicons are a little better, but not a lot of difference. It's hard to go back to non-illuminated scopes for hunting after I got used to the illuminated ones.

hi, we hunt hogs at nite, as we are infested right now. We normally use Leopold 50 mm objectives and they work ok with some light. Our shots are about 100 yards, because the hogs learn fast. Problem is a black cross hairs on a black pig. Makes shot placement very difficult. We purchased the least expensive scope with a lite reticule to test, and it works great at nite. The scope was a Redfield 3x9. We have added a few Weavers with lite reticules and they work great as well. I think it depends on your type of hunting, terrain, distance and intended targets.

I read this thread a couple days ago. Yesterday,at the range, I turned mine on. It was cloudy and I was having trouble seeing the dot in my reticle. It helped. Last night, I saw this thread again and realized I had forgotten to turn it off.
