Illinois single shot deer caliber ??

Are muzzleloaders allowed? What about a modern long range smokeless muzzleloader? Guys making 500+ yard hits with them fairly easy

458 win mag legal? Cheap savage bolt gun with er shaw barrel does great. Ruger 1 is nice too but would suggest a brake lol long barnes tsx for long range bc if needed. Should be a great combo

Those would both be legal

Think if I were to put this in a #1, it would be a 500 Nitro Express just to troll the DNR on these rules.

Otherwise, a 300 blk on an AR with a bobsled.

Buy cva cascade xt bolt action in 450 bushmaster. Trigger pull 2#3oz. Fluted #5 chromemoly bbl 22" with muzzle brake. Black cerakoted. Picatinny scope base included. Thread protector if don't want muzzle brake. Fiberglass camo stock. Shoots great. Pic of 2 groups- barnes 250gr and am whitetail 245gr. @ 100yds during break in of bbl. With dems pushing assault rifle ban this week. See rifle writeups on 450bushmaster.net

You could take the end cap off the magazine and slide a wooden dowel rod down the inside of the magazine spring same way you plug a shotgun, put the cap back on and there's no way to put a shell in the magazine. Don't know why they wouldn't accept that... John
Yep if you asked the warden to try and load cartridge in magazine..just like shotgun..it would have to be disassembled...I'd let the judge decide.

A Ruger #1 in either 444 Marlin or 45-70. 45-70 is probably easier to get in the #1, but Ruger made/makes them in both cartridges

I think they made the 350 Legend just for hunters needing a straight wall cartridge.
It should work well for your application IMO...or not just my 2c
I 2nd this. It's the 'easy mode' for straight wall cartridge laws.

Some may and probably will recommend 450 bushmaster... But I have not heard many good results (here in michigan) from people I know who use it as well as folks at the range I talk to about 450. It's either too kerplody or not very lethal really close. I'm sure if one knows the limitations you can do fine, but with those limitations AND the recoil, it's just easier to go with the 350 legend.
