Ignorance of the Press

machete is a general term that identifies a sword-like blade (tool) used for cutting through plants and undergrowth. It is not a singular item of identification such as kukri.

When I wore a vest, the only part of it that would stop a knife blade was the chest plate. Not sure if there are blade proof ones currently.

I watched some vids on youtube a while ago that carried one through the testing and acceptance procedures of becoming a Gurka. Very interesting. No idea if they are still up.

For example, many years ago a reporter was doing an article on integrated circuits and was interviewing people at my company. The reporter insisted on saying 'silicone' [i.e., the rubbery stuff like silicone sealant] for the material we used which was silicon [pronounced sili ken]. You should have seen the look of disgust on her face when I tried to give her the correct pronounciation!
One of my pet peeves. "Silicon Sealer." "Silicone Carbide."
