jim borden has been in the hospital, but should be back by monday
i trim my brass as part of reloading process...every time...no long brass
i took the rifle apart today. nothing visible to me as the issue
bolt stripped no extractor still cycles freely
a properly sized cases slips into the chamber.
no clues at this point

1. Take bolt out... Can you fit the case in the bolt under the extractor? Does the extractor sit flush?
2. Maybe bolt nose clearance?

Get some dykem

so screwed the recvr back on hand tight, bolt still cycles
put a case in the chamber and screwed the rcvr back on with a case in the chamber.
constantly check for bolt movement.
all the way in hand tight.. AND THE BOLT CYCLES.
GONNA HAVE LUNCH AND PONDER

Could Jim have sent you the wrong extractor. I have no idea if all the same. I'd spend some more time looking for the old one maybe.

I think someone mentioned it already but very possibly the problem is at the radius area at the neck shoulder junction. Ink or dykem can show it but ya gotta look real closely, as it can be a teeny tiny narrow area of contact making it easy to over look. These are almost always something really simple but easily missed somewhere. If you can get the case to spin just a bit while bottomed out it might mark it more clearly for ya.

ok so serious therapy was called for.
i took 2 rifles to the range and did some load development work.
small group in the 30br was 0.085...good therapy.
installed a new virgin extractor/spring/plunger in the bolt. free extractor movement.
put a case in the chamber, put the bolt in recvr closed, and threaded it all on the bbl til flush
and it WOULD NOT EXTRACT the case.
done until monday when jim gets back

Repeat putting the bolt and case back in. Close bolt with the case in the chamber. If it doesn't pick up the case bump the bolt forward. I've fitted Sako extractors tight to the bolt face to maximize extraction and made the phone ring.

so the case is .002 setback, closing bolt is not normal feels like scraping metal...
but it does not extract

i really think i do not need dykem to know the extractor is not going over the rim of the case...cause it aint pulling it out..and it aint stuck..it comes out easy
