If you could only own one rifle?

Only one? Choice would be my Rem 700 VS in .25-06. I'm a hunter first and foremost. This rifle was my first and has been on many hunts, groundhog, deer and bear. Not once did I ever feel under gunned with it.
Great all around duel purpose cal great on varmints and deer

Heck, if I could only have one -- I guess I'd finally break down and get an AR. Probably go with 308, and get other barrels for smaller cartridges.

Right now, I'm the only guy who doesn't have one. jd

had a PSA M4 sold it, not my thing either...

6.5x47lapua

Savage FP110 Tactical , McMillan tactical stock , 308 ,Krieger barrel Cut with a Federal reamer ,Sharpshooter trigger, 6X24 Swarovski

OOPS That already in the safe
That sounds really sweet I like the Remington 700 trued up with the Jewel 2 oz Trigger 6 BR 1-8 twist 1 1/4 inch Dia straight tube Schneider stainless steel match barrel Lupold VX -6 7-42 scope

The barrels ARE rifled . . .

In all seriousness, for hunting, I'd have a controlled feed of some stripe in .375 H&H. Will kill anything on the planet and ammo is readily available worldwide. For the zombie apocalypse and other upheavals, an AK47 automatic in 7.62 Russian for the same reasons.
Before anyone says an AK47 won't kill an elephant or a rhino, read up on what the poachers are using. I can tell you this. It's not Super Grade M70s in .458 Win mag.

well i am glad that this is just not necessary but

i would go remage with a jewel trigger and a selection of different barrels, at least 6br, 6.5 SAUM and 300 WSM and a benchrest and sportsters McMillan stock.

Like the title says, if you could have only one rifle what would it be?

Mine would be my win model 70 in 280rem. It has been such a reliable gun and can do just about anything. There is ample brass, bullets and powder options. Plus I bought it at age 11 with lawn mowing money. I've had it for 27 years with not a single issue .

I know it’s qualities, but alas have not found it yet...

It would be a...

Short action bolt gun
Stainless
Controlled round feed
Able to accept savage prefit barrels
Weigh no more than 8.5 pounds all up
Shoot a .600BC bullet or higher from 130 to 180gr at 2800fps or higher
Recoil no more than a .308
Consistently put 5 shots into 1/2” or less
Have factory ammo available at most locations that sell ammo
Have a comb height that alligns my eye perfectly with the scope

I have had rifles that will meet some or most of these qualities, but never one that met them all. If I ever do find it, rest assured I’ll never get rid of it.

Got it;SS 700 SPS 7-08.....has never seen a jacket'd bullet.It's a tack driver,EDC.

Already giving the rifles N handguns to the boys(4 grown sons).

Give me the above 7-08,a GSXR 750 road racing M/C,a toolroom lathe & BP mill, shop truck,Lincoln Tig,and some housesmith equipment,a few hot rod trad bows and enough money for beer and all's good here.

An AR-10/.308 with as thick and long of a barrel as you can get from your favorite manufacturer.

Personally, I love my custom .30-06, but it is bolt which would be a disadvantage as a utility rifle.

Another guy here without an AR. Don't have one, don't need one and don't want one. Only one rifle, probably my 6mmBR.
