If not the .22-250?

I don't see shooting more than 300 yards at most. Probably 200. That's probably as far as I'll want to keep walking back and forth to post and retrieve targets. So as much as I just think a .22-250 would be cool it leans more and more to .223 being the way to go. 55/35/10.
Or luck into finding a nice .222 Remington somehow. :)

If you are into "looking for something nice or building something nice" split the difference and get a 222 rem mag.. I personally would build, then you can use a 1/10 twist barrel and shoot everything between 40 grs. to 70grs. and still only be shooting in the high 20's of powder. Very accurate and fun to shoot. This is coming from a guy that loves his 222 remington and has owned everything from a 22 hornet to a 220 weatherby rocket, 50gr. nosler ballistic tips at 4200fps are very impressive on pd and groundhogs.
Just another option.

I honestly prefer the 222 over 223
Not a BIG deal, but enough to notice
You might think so too if you held out for one

I like the .222 from 40-45 years ago when I had a .222 Contender Super 14. I wish I had that back. If anyone made a .222 now I'd probably get that and call it a day. But won't be doing anything until next year, barring a major unexpected influx. And provided no more dentist surprises. But I have a new one and don't expect that again.

The sensible thing would probably be use that money to upgrade my 10/22 and stick to 100 yards max. using the plethora of ammo I have on hand.
Next would probably be the Ruger American Gen II in the gray not ugly finish in .223.
Last, but appealing, the Mini-14, especially the better looking all wood 50th anniv. version but any of the wood stock models. That way I could keep on spending to get more and more and more and more magazines. :)

Oh NO!!! Not a Mini 14! The poor accuracy of the Mini 14 is LEGENDARY!!!

I got 204R, 223, 223AI, 22-250, 22CM, 243, 6mm CM, 6.5CM and up, I enjoy shooting paper, steel, pdogs, rocks, coyotes, a crow or two... based on what you are described, I assume you reload, if not, you better cuz yer about to have a blast ( yea well pun intended!). Look at a 204 R and 223 both are great fun to shoot, you can shoot all day and not be tired, a suppressor and its like shooting a 22 Mag, those ranges are perfect for those two, wont break the bank and just plain fun, plus if you do get a chance to go after varmints, they will work. 22-250 is great I got 5 of them and I use em, but those darn 204s and 223 just like to jump up in my hands and say "shoot be uncle Bill, shoot me"!

The .204 Ruger is on the suspect list. Not much more recoil than a .223 according to the chart, only 80% of the .22-250 and only 49% of the dreaded .25-06. I think I heard Ruger offers rifles chambered for it, among others. :)

And to explode a few more heads after the ones mentioning a Mini-14 blew up, I'm also considering a Henry in .32/.327 I could use my revolver handloads in. :)
