If it works and it's stupid, it's not stupid.

I got one of those wilton vices.... That's going to be a super handy tool to have around.
Pretty soon the Wilton multi angle will be all you use and the standard vise will be on the shelf. :) -Al

Tide goes in, tide goes out, you can't explain that.

I'm sure it flashes off quickly. It only thinned out the mix for a few minutes. Long enough to butter the stock and action

Kinda what I was thinking. It evaporated into the atmosphere seems logical to me.

If it evaporated after curing, then it will have left voids, or if it evaporated before, the whole mass will have shrinkage. Or, some combination of the two.

I'd bet it's entirely gone before the action is even fully inserted in the bedding. This is 3-4 raindrops of acetone in a 4-ounce mix. I'm not worried about it.

Probably not, but you didn't quantify it in your original post. Nonetheless, it is something to consider. You've got a foreign substance that is not contributing to the final matrix or worse, degrading it.

Raises any air pockets or bubbles, too
I was bedding a friends rifle and he wanted to help and better understand the process. When it was time to mix the bedding, I put both parts of Pro Bed on my mixing board and asked him to mix it. I turned around a minute later....it looked like he was trying to dismember a torso! I had him stop and just watch the compound. Pretty soon, air pockets would rise to the surface. I showed him how to fold it together instead of stirring it. "Just like baking a cake, right?" he said. Pretty good analogy.

Even after folding it together, I let it sit for 10 minutes or so and poke it with a wooden chop stick occasionally to make sure there's no air trapped in it. Once it's in the stock, I let it self-level for a few minutes before putting the barrelled action in.

That bedding looks really nice, LVLAaron. :) Will be interested to see how it acts on the dial indicator with those 'nubs'. Hopefully you provided for some clearance around the outside of them?

Good shootin'. -Al
