Identifying Front Rest

Boilermaker

Silver $$ Contributor
I purchased a front rest from a fellow shooter. I have not been able to find anything about this rest and was curious if anybody recognizes it and possibly know who makes it. The second picture has the only markings I have been able to find on the rest. Any help would be appreciated. Joshua20180528_113058.jpg 20180528_134433.jpg

I have never seen a "factory" front rest that looks anything like that. However, I have seen "semi-similar" rests made by shooters who are capable of designing their own front rests and making them! I would bet this is a "self manufactured" rest..

The guy I bought it from purchased it at an estate sale. He doesn't know who built it. I thought it might be custom, but figured I would check here and see if anybody recognized it. I would like to change the top to an adjustable bag top. I was hoping to be able to be able to get a rest top ordered to fit by telling them the base I have.

In my experience tops only come 2 ways. 3/4 inch or 1 inch. I know that all the joy stick rests are different, but all the rests Ive fooled with its all in the threads going in to the base.

Boilermaker, Butch Lambert will be able to make you a co-ax rest top to fit your base. He makes the Shadetree rest tops and is great to deal with. Like Ebb said the shafts usually are either 3/4 or 1" but the thread pitch varies. Either way he can do you good.

This is an older rest made by Ken Watrous in Washington state. pm me if you'd like his contact info. Ken made a couple different designed front rests. Mainly made for rim fire benchrest.

Here's pictures of how my top mounts. Is this anything similar to what you have seen? The rest top has 2 screws that hold it on to the brass bushing then the bushing is held onto the shaft with a single set screw. I was leaning towards a Randolph machine top, I might have to give Butch a call also.

Well Ive been corrected, most have a piece of all thread that is used to raise and lower the elevation. I bought a Ron Hoen top from a friend and made the base. All that I looked at, at the time had either a 3/4 inch or 1 inch shaft. I have never seen one like that. Butch may be your guy.

Doesnt matter what post you have in the rest- it has one hole in the top for something like a 1/4-20 countersunk socket head screw. You can put any top on your post dont even be concerned with it. Butchs top will fit it fine- im sure he would rather you pull that post out and send it to him so you dont have to worry about taking his intricate top apart. Then you just slide it in there and keep shooting
