Idaho - heaven on earth?

Tell that to OR & WA both are considered parts of northern california and headed that way in NV, AZ, MT, & TX. FL is a direct stop from NY & all of N.E.
Oh thats not say there arent a few true conservatives mixed in but theyre so few its statistically irrelevant.

You know, it's weird. I'm a mobile service guy and I talk to quite a few people. 99% volunteer information to me about how f'd up everything is. Many even talk about the coming civil war. Now, I don't work in the cities, and that's where the problem lies. It's the classic makers vs the takers.
Rural California is just as red as anywhere in the country - we're just grossly outnumbered by city people who want the government to do everything for them. It's amazing how many people tell me that there's going to be some bad chit coming and they're getting ready for it. California is just too big to be one state anymore. It's like living in 2 different countries, you have the major metropolitan areas, and the you have the rest of the state that has to live with their stupidity.
The state of Jefferson would be a great solution but I don't see it happening.

You have no clue what your talking about. There are plenty of conservatives in California that are every bit as truly red as anywhere else in the country.
I live in Washington, where the pattern is the same as California (below). Taxes collected in urban areas fund the rural part of the state, not the other way 'round.

I have lived in Boise for 18 years, and my wife was born and raised in Boise (I came from Montana, next door). Boise is the fastest growing city in America, mostly led by the mayor's unrelenting quest for growth and increasing the property tax base. Make no mistake that the Boise area and the surrounding cities are solidly blue. At some point, there will be enough liberals here to control the state. So while I imagine the guys that are members of this shooting forum and others like it aren't going to contribute to the redness of the state, the fact is that many, many more people that move here to the Boise area are red and will move to change the area to their politics.
But I've enjoyed living here and don't imagine we'll move away anytime soon, although I may try to move out of the Boise area at some point.

I've hunted a bit on the opposite of that river, on Granite peak. Always wondered if I should have been on your side....

I've seen charts like that before and I don't believe them. I have also seen "evidence" that contradicts that. Don't have it handy though. Yeah, the funny thing about numbers is you can make them say whatever you want. You can’t trust anything anymore.
No evidence, just your belief, eh? Forgive me if I'm not persuaded -- must be my profession as a scientist that biases me in favor of hard data over vague feelings.
People living in the hinterlands should be happy that most of the planet seems to prefer to live in urban areas and send their tax money to support those in the backcountry. I know that it makes me happy!

Thank you for proving my point. Too few to be statistically relevant. State elections might need to go to an electoral system so the many dont out weigh the few just because they live in a city.
Oh and heres an interesting thing about the California wildfires to consider seeing how Feinsteins husband got the contract to build the new train system.
