I recently just shot my first benchrest matches, but it was a custom class that did not count. So, as I am getting more involved and will be purchasing a br gun soon, I want to make sure my bags are filled correctly and I know there are certain rules, at least that’s my assumption. Heavy vs light sand, the height of the front bag that the rifle rests on in the front rest, etc.... theWhat are you needing to know I will be more than glad to help if you give a good example.
Thank you.If you shoot IBS benchrest matches contact vertically can't be more than a 1/2 inch high as long as your bags are a half inch you are probably safe I don't think there's a problem with heavy sand without going back an reading the rules I don't think there's a problem as far as contact on the rear of the stock but I have heard rumors how good of rumors don't know but it could change by next year according to how hard it is pushed.PS you can go to there website an pretty much find the definition of what you need to be compliant.
I believe you still must be able to lift the gun up from the front rest in IBS. This style bag would not let you do that.

Right! Would it not be simpler to do away with such a frivolous rule, that is seldom if ever enforced...and just let people experiment? I often wonder where some of these rules originated. If there is no rule, there is no cheating. Don't get me wrong..there needshould to be rules but this subject comes up a lot regarding front bags and I've seen it enforced 1 time since 2007. Actually, only the lifting straight up aspect was being enforced then...So zero times. This picture would be illegal. There is more than 1/2 inch contact on the front. Way more.
Now if the rifle had a forend that had a flat side, 1/2" or less and nothing else touching on the side, it would be legal. It is not the height of the front rest bag that is the issue. The issue is the height of the CONTACT patch between the rifle and the front rest.
