All the Fclass shooters out there what type sand is most preffered for rear shooting bags?

I prefer the Edgewood tall bag.... Go to a shoot and ask some of the shooters to get behind their gear and try a couple different styles out to see what you're comfortable with.
I use playground sand with a little #9 lead shot mixed in for extra weight....

i use a cheaper protektor bag with the handle built into the bottom with my kids sand from their sandbox.

i have even made some vinyl bags and filled them with rice. they work good too

The heavy sand is the best for the base, and screened fine for the ears. Make sure it's dry before you put it in a leather bag or you will have a problem. Mike

I use black sand in my bags.

how do I know what dimension to get for the ear spacing? It comes in 3/8" 1/2" or up to 3/4" custom spacing

Measure the underside of your stock for a custom fit.

I did measure just at the very edge on the bottom and my stock was just over 1". Is that where I need to measure of do I need to measure further up from the very edge of the bottom of the stock?

1" seems wide but if that's it then get the 3 stitch ( 3/4 ) bag. The stock will usually rest on the bag approximately 3-4" from the butt plate, and yes you measure the very bottom edge. You can fill or loosen the ears to fit from there. Mike

I would remove the rear sling stud, use a 3/4" bag and ride it on fairly firm ears.

Steve is that from experience with the stock/knowledge of someone else that has one or based on my measuring? I am not sure if I measured it correctly but the least I got was like 0.8 something inches and the most was just over an inch

I ride F-Open stocks with rear flats parallel to the barrel on the bag, using the ears to prevent lateral movement. My tactical stock rides on the ears as the toe is not parallel to the forend or barrel. It just seems to produce better results that way. Lots of folks use rear bags either way, with equal success. Try it and see what works best for you. My tactical rifle has an H-S PST-025 stock. It does not have the same configuration as your B&C but it is certainly not flat or configured for a rear bag.

Thanks. I will try to research it more as I do not have any shooters locally that shoot with rear rests or even know anyone with one and I am having to order online "blind". My stock is not flat but it is not a V shape hunting stock. Just barely has a rounded edge to it and seem fairly thick.


Any thoughts on filling base with heavy sand and ears with reg sand anyone?

well talked to guys at Protektor(David and Tom) and conclusion was to try the DR bag with cordura and mid ears with 1/2" spacing between ears. I hope this is what I need

It has been my experience that I have seen excellent shooters use different bag manufacturers, ear height, sand, etc. on the line. Some great recommendations have been made, but might I suggest you talk to some folks at the matches and ask them why they use the one they have.
