I want to get started (again) in benchrest

Okay, it's been 20+ years since I shot BR and I know things have changed a lot but I want to get into it for fun (but I know me, I'll be out for blood after getting settled in), Where can I gather the info for benchrest? Where matches are held locally, regionally and of course nationally? Yes I have searched the net and there is a lot of info out there but I'm not finding what I really want so "can you help?"
Thanks guys/gals,
Merry Christmas

Your profile says you are in KY. I honestly think KY is the center of short range Benchrest in the score game. UBR has taken over! There’s always a match within driving distance on any weekend during the shooting season. If your equipment from 20 years ago was competitive then it still will be today although some things have made shooting faster easier like a joystick front rest. Let us know where you are and I’ll guarantee you’ve got a neighbor willing to help. Nothing helps your shooting like a friend who shoots too. I live near the Red River Gorge. Welcome back!

Hey guys thanks for the quick responses, I live in Richmond, KY but am working in Naples, FL (home now for the holidays) but hoping to retire soon and shoot more!

I have a new 6PPC built in 88 by James Messer (deceased) that has a Hall action, I had it out a couple of weeks ago for the first time and after sight in shot an 8 shot bughole at 60 yards (I was still at the sight in distance) and was impressed with it. Oh, what is UBR? See I told you I've been out for a long time! LOL

I think your close to Buck Creek range in Somerset Ky. Great place to shoot( mostly short range I believe). I am not as familiar with that area as others on here to know the other “local” ranges close to you. Look on the ultimate benchrest site for all the ranges and also international benchrest site. The 2019 schedule is being worked on now.

Not to far from Somerset, I shoot when I can at Wilmore (Bluegrass Sportsman).

I just saw "Red River Gorge!" man you are close! If you are in Lexington before the 4th of Jan let me know I'll buy a coffee and pick your brain! LOL

Thank you, that would be great! How about Wednesday or Thursday after Christmas? I'll call you or text you on Wednesday morning! Thanks again

You are set up to have a lot of fun this spring & summer. Your location is roughly in the middle of UBR country. This year there will be at least one match every weekend within driving distance. Dry Branch, near Lafayette TN -1st Saturday, BGSL, 1st Sunday, I think. Red Brush, Newburgh IN-2nd Saturday, also Dead Zero-Sparta TN - a little further. 3rd Saturday- Buck Creek SE of Somerset. 4th Saturday- Rocky Rd, Jonesville VA. Also, John will tell you when their range at Junction City will be shooting. Should you feel the need to travel there are quite a few more, just further out. All you need is powder & bullets and a little gas money. You should be good to go.

Rick
