I want to build the best possible 600/1000 yard gun.

I recently got divorced and have no one to complain about me spending $ on guns so

UNLIMITED FUNDS are available to build the best rifle that could be built. By the best gunsmiths and stockers. I’ve owned and still own guns that shoot great, 2 inch 10 shot groups at 600. My goal here is to build the best possible light gun made for this. Dollars be damned. Bring it on boys. No BS here. Only pertinent info. I’m also only interested in hearing from acknowledged shooters that have experience In this game. By the way the avatar group was shot in a Dasher with Vapor Trails And some Varget in competition in the NW. These boys can shoot.
WHAT SHOULD I BUILD?

Well sadly there is a minor amount of variance in components which contribute heavily to performance bullets and barrels. If you truly have unlimited funds, I would buy barrel blanks by the 100s have them chambered and cull them by performance on target to identify and grade truly the best barrel possible. The same goes for lots of bullets identify the lots that have the least dispersion. Also if funds are unlimited build a 600/1000 yard tunnel and hire a team to scale this work so it can be completed in a reasonable time frame to attend the matches you want to compete in.

Welcome back Dan. Do what Jim says and contact one of those two Smiths. From what I remember you don't need to build any new rifles if you still own the ones you shot a few years back.

We are shooting a registered match at the UNSC tomorrow. Drag out one of those rifles and shoot it. If you have loaded ammo from a few years ago sitting around bring that and shoot it. You will be surprised how well the old stuff shoots.

Long Range Rifle

Two Things are a given with any ULTIMATE rifle build of mine.

First a 10x60 Precision Valdada! That’s a must have. Second without a doubt would be a @Bc'z paint job. A rifle is just a rifle, but a rifle with a Bc’z paint job is a functioning work of art. I have two and shooters constantly stop me to admire them.

Then we start getting into preferences. Such as Actions. Borden, Bat, Kelbly all of them are great. I prefer melonited. Definitely a 308 bolt face.

As Far as a stock. I’d get a Scarbrough LV. That way you can use it to compete in anything you please. Long Range 600 or 1000, short range group, score, or UBR. You’d have to put an adjustable butt-plate on it for F Class.

Barrel would be about 10 Lederers 8 Twist for long range or 10 barliens for short. Or some ABC if you can get them.

Triggers, I’d get a couple of Bix N Andys and some jewels. Try them both see what works better. Plus you’ll need spares.

As far as a gunsmith Alex Wheeler, Shawn Williams are great choices. Another would be Old Dominion rifles. Not as well known but impeccable work.

That’s all I can think for now.

@Fullbore308 swears there's a paint node.

If I had the funds and wanted a top shooter to compete with......I would buy Bart's gun he just won the recent match with......I'll bet it's a switch barrel.
...............Money Has A Very Loud And Persuasive Voice.......LOL
Best of luck & Have Fun.............

Regards
Rick

ps: congrats on you new found freedom

I had to sell one of the guns I shot before and the other one, the one that shot the avatar group,is a right/right and it’s hard to be consistent. Thanks for the info guys. The multiple barrel thing has got me interested.

There is a painting node, lol. Yep, Borden action, Bix trigger, and Brux barrels sent to the best GS around. 1M stock, Rad and action sent to the best Stock guy around. And finally, the stock sent to the best painter around @Bc'z for one sassy paint job.
I’m still trying to figure this shooting competition thing out. I believe the most important thing is surrounding yourself with great people. I’ve become close to these guys. The friendships not only has improved my shooting, these guys have improved the quality of my life. So don’t forget to send yourself to the best crowds. Have some fun and enjoy the friendships. Best of luck with everything, Jeremy

I agree that buying a proven winning rifle is probably the smartest way to go. The best of everything is great and all but is still unproven. Pay the man who wins a lot. Let him wait on a new build while you shoot and refine that aspect. Also, yes..buy and chamber several bbls and bullets. Sell the average ones..keep the exceptional stuff.
