I want to build the best possible 600/1000 yard gun.

My opinion is there are plenty of good components! Kelbly's, Bat, Defiance, Borden, Hall, they can all be made to shoot, barrels are the same, Bartlien, Krieger, Brux, Shilen, the list goes on, stocks If 17# is your goal, they can all do the job, if making weight is a problem, well then Scarborough can probably cheat you the most to make that lightest, as for Gunsmiths, there are plenty, even the ones we don't hear about, but plenty that will meet your needs to compete at the highest level.

Scopes,,, well only few have proven their worth to me in all deamnds of optics, and reliability! March, Niteforce, Valdada, Kahles, S&B, all have proven themselves it's more about which onse glass best suites you.

But lets be honest,,, the top shooters are what set's the standards all others buy by! I would bet 100'w against 10's if you put most loosing equipment in the winners hands and vice versa,,,,,, probably not gonna change the outcome much!

I put more in the shooters ability, than chasing top manufacturers equipment. Ya they all make a less than perfect product on occasion, but in my experiance, most of those top shooters change equipment every year,,, But but most matches see the same top shooters in their top 10 list every year,,,,, be real,,,, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE,,,,

I think most of us we would be surprised to hear how many capps them top shooters pop every year, let alone every week! By the best you can afford, and use any quality gunsmith, and enjoy the sport. I believe from the bottom of my heart, if you do that, and honestly put the work and dedicate the time one needs to be a winner,,, your name is going to make that top 10 list more often than not, but do you have the dedication to make that happen.

But thinking spending more and throwing the most money at anything isn't going to make you a winner on it's own!

I think the OP is well aware of this and investing in yourself for a hobby is not a loss especially when you can get around 90% of your investment back on components for a build.
No one suggested not buying the best, but thinking there is only one best, or the best is always the most expensive is not true!

This was what I hoped was taken from the comment. We all are aware that the best is always a better investment than mediocre! In most cases I have found out if you can only get 90% of your money back, you probably didn't buy the best to begin with, or paid more than it was worth,,,,, ;)

My thoughts on investment in yourself is priceless, but that cost is time! That was my meaning on practice

Correct, I never said this either, what is good for short range may not work for mid or long range, the best? In the eyes of the discipline or the beholder.

Agreed but we have to start somewhere.

Agreed, I wish I has invested more in myself and loved ones regardless of time or cost.

Got be a good tuna and have the time to become a very good tuna

not shooting, get the recipe for the rifle to be consistent for 8-16 targets

Build your own range with covered concrete bench and a good road to and from the targets with shotmarker and fresh paper and a personal cleaner of all your barrels and a personal brass cleaner, re sizer, etc. reload at the range

Nice boat’ got any more pictures ? How far out are y’all running for those fine looking tuna ?

Don’t want to highjack the thread but here‘s the One Fish Two Fish. She is a great boat for far Northern California waters super sturdy not a lot of frills, just a fishing boat. We‘ve been lucky the last couple years. The warm water has gotten close. We caught them around 30-35 miles out. In years past it is normally a 55-70 mile trip out to get in em.

Hell of a boat, definitely sea worthy.
Thx for sharing that.
I ran a 24 ft sea ray for about 13 years fishing out of Nea Bay wa.

So you spend 100%, then sell and get 90% back and that’s not a loss? Hold on, let me get my calculator to double check that… ;)
Try not to be a smart arse, all I'm trying to point out is it is not a 100% loss, most of the time what little you lose you will gain in fun, knowledge and friends. The fake wood you win is worthless just like your sighters.
