I thought this was funny. :)

The answer can be found by posing the following question:

You're walking down a
deserted street with your wife
and two small children.

Suddenly, a Terrorist with a huge knife
comes around the corner,
locks eyes with you,
screams obscenities,
raises the knife, and charges at you...

You are carrying a
Kimber 1911 cal. 45 ACP, and you are an expert shot.
You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family.
What do you do?

THINK CAREFULLY AND
THEN SCROLL DOWN:

Democrat's Answer:

Well, that's not enough information to answer the question!
What is a Kimber 1911 cal. 45 ACP?
Does the man look poor or oppressed?
Is he really a terrorist? Am I guilty of profiling?
Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?
Could we run away?
What does my wife think?
What about the kids?
Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand?
What does the law say about this situation?
Does the pistol have appropriate safety built into it?
Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children?
Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me?
Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me?
If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me?
Should I call 9-1-1?
Why is this street so deserted?
We need to raise taxes, have paint & weed day.
Can we make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior.
I need to debate this with some friends for a few days and try to come to a consensus.
This is all so confusing!

Even as a foreigner, I like it!

Here in the UK, you can't have a Kimber .45, or any other pistol, so it would have to be your deer or target rifle.

In the highly unlikely event you were carrying it down the street, it would have to be in a sealed case so the terrorist would most likely kill you and your family by the time you got it into action.

BUT ... even if you did and survived, the police here would:

(1) revoke your firearms certificate (FAC) and confiscate your rifle (using it outside of the terms of the FAC, not on a 'suitable rifle range for the calibre' and/or not on the authorised land where you shoot deer etc.).

(2) want to know what was your 'good reason' for being in possession of the firearm in a public place, and in the absence of such, revoke .... etc, etc.

(3) Arrest you for 'assaulting' the terrorist if you shot him before he actually attacked, and investigate whether you could be charged with murder or manslaughter. It's unlikely they'd eventually charge you in these particular circumstances, but they'd make your life hell with days of interrogations holding you in the police station as a suspect, taking statements and generally carrying on like this for months while you're on 'police bail' while they tried to make something (.... anything!) stick. At every stage of the proceedings, you wouldn't be a hero, but a suspected criminal.

(4) Tell you it's not your job to protect yourself - you should call the police and get them to do it, as that's what they're paid for. This assumes the terrorist waits around 6 hours before doing you in while the police investigate the 'complaint', decide it needs an armed response unit whose members can do nothing until Gold, Silver and Bronze commanders are appointed, have full communications and back-up resources and are in situ, have carried out a risk assessment (of police safety) ... and more.

(You think I'm joking or exaggerating, don't you? Well, just this happened in Gloucestershire three or four years ago. An estranged husband shot his wife and his mother in law in her back garden with a single-barrel .410 shotgun, left them bleeding on the ground and departed. The police wouldn't enter the premises (or allow emergency medical teams past their cordon) until they had carried out a full recon and risk assessment despite a neighbour making over 40 '999' calls telling police control that the gunman had left and he'd checked the premises were safe - eventually told to stop or "they would arrest him for harrassing the police". Eventually an off-duty UNARMED detective on his way to work heard the radio chatter on the police radio in his private car and went into the house and garden on his own initiative and came out telling our Glock and H&K MP5 armed heroes it was safe. One woman died quickly, but the other lay untreated for over two hours and eventually died through trauma and blood loss after reaching the hospital. She would likely have survived if treated quickly. This is an extreme case and the coroner and media had harsh words for the police, but is symptomatic of attitudes here!)

You think the lunatics have taken over the asylum - you should come here. A former SAS (elite army special forces unit) senior officer stated recently that parts of London are wide open to a Mumbai type waterborne terrorist suicide attack using smallarms and explosives taking over a major business tower, sealing off access and killing hundreds, maybe thousands inside by working through each floor killing defenceless workers as the police sat outside and did nothing. They have neither the resources nor training nor - and this is crucial - willingness to take on such a scenario and it would take many hours to get military special forces personnel into action - those few who aren't in the Middle East that is!

Laurie...........why don`t you move to Canada? At least we can get Berger bullets here.

Rural and Northern Canada are still firmly in the grip of pioneering firearms ownership. A few years ago a store owner in a small town close to my small town in southern Ontario blasted the car of a fleeing burglar with a shotgun. The police charged the store owner with careless use of a firearm. He was defended by a lawyer from the Canadian Firearms Association (CFA), the Canadian equivalent of the U.S. NRA. The lawyer contended that the store owner hit what he shot at and there was no carelessness involved. The judge agreed with the defence and decreed the store owner not guilty.

A few years later the police in a large town near me charged a firearms owner with careless transport of a firearm because they found a rifle in his car in a gun case but with no trigger lock. A trigger lock is only required in Canada for a rifle in storage, not in transport. The same CFA lawyer presented the Federal law to the judge and the judge declared the rifle owner not guilty. The rifle owner sued the police for $50,000 and won the law suite.

Just don`t move to Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver. That`s where all the drug dealers and loonies are.
