I think I found my load for my 223

New fuel efficient hog gun?
I can’t read your target! What’s your load? Brass, primer, bullet, powder, COL, COAL, distance in or off lands, dies used, firings on brass, brass cleaning method, lubed necks or clean, moly or hbn or naked bullet, lot numbers and years of manufacture? C’mon! I’m bored!

Now I can answer, naked bullet naked shooter, no lubed necks only REDNECKS, .03 off the lands, Lapua brass
Redding dies, 5 firings with no annealing, year of manufacture 1950 model and not dead yet.

Those are some really nice groups.

I have several 12" twist 223 Rem bolt rifles - they are my go to varmint / predator hunting rifles.

50 - 55 grain bullets work very very good in all mine. I like the Nosler 50 and 55 BT's but the Sierra and Hornady's in this weight range have also worked quite well in the past. These days of storages, it's prudent to have a back up load.

I've found several powders that work exceptionally well with this combo. Namely, H4895, Benchmark, H335, and Varget. Currently I'm using H4895 with excellent results.

On a small case like the 223, I think you need smaller powder increments, .3 then .2 when you think you are about there. For a varmint gun, I've been known to go without the extra refinement. What you got should work out to 300 yds. Enjoy.

I've got to find some sm. rifle primers pretty soon, but we got trading material. Going to start at 25.5 and ease my way to 26, maybe 26.2 slowly.

I agree with the Frank, I'd restart at 25.0g and move up in .3g....... increments then refine further from there with powder and seating depth.

I also don't think you need five shot groups for initial load development. If three won't group five won't make it smaller.
