I heard the Leica 2700 is better then the 1600. It is fairly new and not alot of info yet. The Terrapin blew everything away when we compared them. It is no longer made but they have a new one out, some said it is as good and some say it isn't. Matt
I've been using my leica geovid binoculars with built in rangefinder for 14 years now. Never had an issue, only changed the battery twice in all those years.
A couple years ago I had a 1600 Leica and and bought the new Leica 2000b when it came out. I was hoping that the 2000b would be good enough to sell my Terrapin before something happened to it. It was good, but not good enough.
Then I bought a Sig 2000 to compare against the 2000b. There wasn't a clear winner, but I sold the Sig because the Leica had better glass and a smaller aiming point.
Last year I bought the new 2700b as soon as it came out, and tested it against my Leica 2000b, and it wasn't even a contest. It did everything I wanted it to do out to 2K, so I immediately sold the 2000b and the Terrapin.
Latest report on my Leica 2700 from last week. I was out cruising around and spotted a coyote sitting way out in the middle of a section, mostly flat ground, fresh blanket of snow, full sunshine, and ranged him at 1036 yards. When he got up to move, I got ranges again at 1036, then 1038 and 1040 as he walked out of sight.
I've since bought a Leica 2400 also so I can keep the 2700 in the truck, and have the 2400 to carry.
