I need help on Rem 30 Express scope bases.

I acquired a neat old 30 Express and I’m trying to find some bases that would fit. I did some research and ordered Weaver #11 bases. They won’t work. The holes don’t line up.:( I put my calipers to it and eyeballed the centers. The front is .556-7. The rear is .875-6. The action looks to be the same height at the front and rear base locations. I bought a T36 for the gun and I’d like to get it shooting. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Josh , I thought the 11s were the ones I had on before the Lyman target .
Is the front one not matching the 11s ?

Forgot , the Remington 30 were never drilled for scope bases . Each had to be done by the owners choice and until the 70s many different designs were tried .
Side mounts , barrel mounts , combination barrel and receiver , combination side and receiver top , etc .
Next post has what I've found /remembered so far .
I've got the entire weaver display of mounts . Unfortunately they don't give height , contours or screw spacing . I'll have to go thru them .

Just measured and can't find the 11s but I may have had a 700 long one piece on it ( long ago ) it used 3 holes and I had to grind the rear of the base to the same contour of the front .
Savage , Rem 783 , any same contour base should fit , you will have to drill one hole in the rear base . The 11s won't work in this process due to the length . I'll check the box for either the old one piece Rem 700 long action reground , or something that'll fit .
You don't have an old Lyman or Unertl do you ?

Hi Gary! I was trying not to bother you with this. I was a bit stupid. I ordered the Weaver #11s before measuring the centers. They don’t match either drilling. The good news is that they were only $7 for the pair. I saw the holes in the barrel for the “old” external adjustable scopes and I have 2. A Bolvar 24 and a Tasco 6-18. I would need to have a saddle made for that but it would look nicer with one of those. It would be more “in period” with the gun. The Tasco is on an old FN actioned 22-250.

They look perfect but unfortunately the newer receiver mounted set ups are more repeatable /accurate .
I'll get to the bases this week .
If you can , measure the hole spacing from the front rear base to the rear front and rear . This way I can look for the modified bridge mount or make one .

I have a Bausch & Lomb mount base - cat. no. 61-76-14, stamped ENFIELD (remodelled to Rem. 30S receiver shape). It doesn't fit any of my three Model 30s that have been d&td.

Last few times I've needed bases for Model '14/17s I used Leupold "Gun Maker" base blanks. Same for the last Rem. Model 30 I saw, and that was quite a few yrs ago

That's because every 30 was drilled for whatever base the smith or owner had . Bases were not as standard as they are today .

Josh , you are never ever a bother . Always wanting to help , anytime , anything .
After looking at the weaver chart ( cool ) I think I used a one piece bridge mount 3 holes . So if you can measure outer hole /front to outer/rear hole on the rear

I just measured the hole spacing. I used my Mititoyo calipers. I eyeballed it, then I used the mounting screws and subtracted the sides, etc., double measured.......this is what I have:
Front screw holes- .553 Center- Center
Rear screw holes- .732 Center -Center
Center of front front screw hole to front rear screw hole- 5.286

Maybe toss the thousandths as my accuracy on them is questionable.
I appreciate the help!:)
